Don't think he phrased it exactly that way. I think he recognizes the fact that this will go viral the minute the date is announced and the bloggger/vlogger-sphere will explode with rumors, speculation, "inside information", countdowns, previews, more speculation, more rumors, followed by more countdowns and more previews.

Additionally they'll have tie-ins everywhere - with the movie itself, in gift shops, print media, social media, newsletters, on their websites, on their ships, their stations, other people's stations.............................................

Iger just needs to call a Presser one day......walk out on stage..........announce "It opens 4 months from next Monday"........drop the mic......and walk off stage.

Iger says: "Oh, you thought the lines to enter Pandora were bad and the attraction waits were outrageous? Here, hold my top shelf beverage."

Which brings up an interesting question. I haven't followed the SW Hotel thread in a while (so this may have been addressed there).......but are they going to do anything to guarantee that those who are shelling out the dough to stay at that place........have some kind of guaranteed access? Be it EMH or similar.

I suppose that would ease the wallet contusion a bit if by staying at the hotel - you could forgo the insanity and hit SWGE for a couple of hours either before or after any other guests could.

Yes its believable. The announcements, the previews, the ongoing construction photos, the buzz online and in the press already has massive Disney fans on edge. Nothing Disney has done up to this point has driven so much interest in whats to come to a park. Disney doesnt have to market it as heavily as other past projects but I'm sure they will find themselves doing just that. They cant help themselves bragging about what they have.

Reading that title and I immediately think of this...just waiting for a response:

Iger says Disney will not market SWGE, because it is that good . . . Anyone believe him?
They, of course, will market it, but, they won't spend millions to do it. It will be included in Disney ads, but, there is no need to build it all up and spend a lot to do it. That place will draw like a giant magnet. It will just be a blip on a Disney ad like the train in the sky is now.

I am sure we will see the obligatory TV commercial, but the point is I KNOW SWGE will be MOBBED when it opens!!! There will be 4 hour lines winding through DHS to GET INTO the the land. I foresee DHS being closed to capacity some days that week.

The Walt Disney Company already knows SWGE will be MOBBED when it opens.

The open question as other posters have asked is how will they handle it?

I was in the 4 hour line a day after Hogsmeade at Universal Orlando opened I stood in line with the same folks that purchased a special vacation package that allegedly guaranteed entry to Hogsmeade.

Its scary to think about what DHS will be like the week SWGE opens.. The good news, maybe I will be able to get on slinky dog while the rest of the folks are waiting to get in SWGE :)

I'm sure we will see tv spots, web banners and I'm sure good morning America will do a broadcast from the land or at least dedicate significant airtime to talk about it. I would also expect that we see it at the beginning of movies before the previews start during that first look thing they do. If we see an over the top ad campaign, I would actually be a bit worried that something isn't great and they're worried.

You can bet that they'll talk about it in all of their prime time shows on ABC as well.

I definitely see them marketing well after the opening.. Yes, probably the typical ABC morning shows will do a spot from there but I can see them holding off for a year on a major push due to the impending nightmare that will happen regardless of them marketing or not. Heck I can already tell the typical youtube sleaze fest is going to be quite huge.

The transcript is now out and here is what Iger said...

And I would say by the way, on the marketing expense side, don't expect much. I'm thinking that maybe I should just tweet, "it's opening," and that would be enough. I think we're going to end up with incredibly popular and in-demand product with these two new lands. They are large, they are beautiful and they're extremely innovative, and they obviously leverage the popularity of the Star Wars brand. And I think that we're going to have absolutely no problem gaining attention for them or to them, and it's not going to take much marketing to do that. That's a signal that I just sent to our parks and resorts people to keep that budget really low.

The transcript doesn't indicated his joking tone.

I know it's terrible since I'm a Star Wars fan, but I just don't have any interest at all in SWL. I think it's mostly because he's absolutely on point.

They are gonna market the crap out of it. They've already started. The added a video to the target version of solo just to promote the falcon ride. I'm sure i could find more examples. But the Disney machine will be out in full force for SWGE. IMO

I think they will market it to a degree, but, only within ads that they were going to run anyway. No additional expense then normal. Perhaps more overseas then domestic. Honestly who doesn't know what they are building. Word of mouth alone is almost reverberating off the mountains. Star Wars is a huge franchise, can you imagine what would happen if all the fans decided they wanted to get there for the opening?
