If your chicken had a "sell by Oct. 27" on it, would you use it on the 28th?

The "Sell By" date is the date it should leave the store or be removed from the shelves. With proper refrigeration the meat should still be safe for consumption for at least one to three days. Home refrigerators are generally not cold enough to keep meats beyond a few days.

For the first time in my life, I'm eating it a day past it's expiration/sell-by. It's baking now.

Living on the wild side - a little nervous. (It smelled fine.)

Thanks, guys!

No, I live by the mantra - when in doubt throw it out. It has served me well
Same with me, but if it doesn't smell like a garbage dump, I don't care what the date is on it. That has served me well. I am always cynical about those sell by dates. I do pay more attention to meats, but to me the dates on Coke or Pepsi or Beer are just there to make you throw it out and buy some more. It is sealed air tight. Nothing is changing. If you open a can and the pop is still there, it's fine.

Not dead yet. The cat got none, which upset her because she always gets some, but I wasn't willing to risk it for her, lol. :)

This post is hilarious.

You should be fine. You would KNOW by the smell if it were bad. I took pork chops out of the package 3 days past the sell by date and that is a smell I will NEVER forget. I gag just thinking about it. *shudders*
