If You Had Wings opened 38 years ago today

I wonder if the ride will turn into something else. If we're going by the history of that building, Buzz doesn't have much time left.

If You Had Wings was a corporate commercial which outlived the sponsorship, and the sponsor too, I think. Buzz, on the other hand, is one of the stars of the summer's biggest movie [my prediction] and an ongoing Disney character. So I think SRS will be around for awhile.

Although some updates with more 3D elements would be welcome.

I do miss Delta Dreamflight. My favorite forgone WDW attraction.

Buzz is a good attraction though. I still love it even after TSMM has opened...something about shooting real targets and not staring at a video screen...

the Toy Story franchise is such a good/timeless franchise IMO...2 movies so far, a spin off television show, a 3rd movie opening next week. Lovable characters, great family friendly storyline, you can't go wrong.

Great post! I was born in '84 so I'm too young to remember IYHW (though I did ride it as a toddler), but I absolutely loved Dream Flight, and miss it. As people have mentioned, SRS is a decent ride and it really brings out my competive arcade side, but seems a bit unnecessary now that we have TSMM.

Dream Flight was one of those great dark rides that defined WDW for me in the 90's. It's one of the extinct attractions I miss most along with Horizons, World of Motion, and the original Journey Into Imagination. I miss them all so much! (especially Horizons)

I loved both attractions although, I recall DD since that was... over 30 years ago and I was very young.

Great memory post.

Ah, yes, the "it's a small world" of tomorrowland...I always got that song stuck in my head ; )

I had forgotten it was all projections basically, but will never forget it was the easiest ride to cool off on on hot/humid FL summer days.

Thanks for sharing.

In 1977, it was my favorite attraction. Of course, I was only 5. Stilll can't stop singing the song. hadwingshadwingshadwingshadwingshadwingswhadwingshadwings . . .

Loved this. If You Had Wings was the best use of the property UNTIL Buzz moved in. And I do love the song.

I seem to recall that at least some of the video from IYHW showed up in the Mexican boat ride, at least pre-Donald.

But I do think Buzz is a better use of the site, given the interactive nature. Just as I think Ellen's Energy Adventure is a better use of the Universe of Energy than the original version, because it tells a more coherent story while passing along a little knowledge.

Many of the other updates, are not. Stitch, Tiki Birds, Journey Into Imagination, Mexico, to pick a few.

Can someone expalin to me what the left over "Speed Tunnel" is. Thanks

Here's my totally non-expert explanation from my foggy memory:

In the original ride (IYHW), your car moved into a half spherical room with moving projections of airplanes 360 degrees around you. As your car moved from the widest part of the room to the smallest part, the projections appeared to be going faster and faster toward the hole at the end of the room, and there was a breeze in your face as well. The overall effect was that your car was accelerating when in reality it was still moving at the same speed. It was pretty effective; my favorite part of the ride.

The room is still there, but the projections of airplanes are now aliens.
