Current: I'm retired, I'm happy, I'm surrounded by family, I have time to spend with them, I have time to travel and, for the moment, I am relatively healthy... All those other decades were basically involved with career and climbing the ladder. This one is better.

As far as WDW is concerned... It is bigger, has more things to do and I don't have to worry about when I can go. I go when I want too. Earlier decades were great too, but, for different reasons that I no longer want to live through again, so. I'm good with now.

Another vote for current. My first visit was in 1976 and I've been back quite a few times. A lot of things have changed, some for the better, some not so much, but of all the places I've been fortunate to vacation in, WDW is the one I return to the most frequently. I guess that says it all.

This is not a sarcastic comment/question, but since you've been going since 1976, do you truly feel that WDW is currently better than it was in the 90s?

I would expect that answer from someone who wasn't alive in the 90s, or didn't visit back then, but for someone who's seen it all, I'm honestly surprised by these answers.

Current.

I think I would have chosen the 90's but there was *no* fastpass back then. People must have waited in line for like hours just to ride Space Mountain and stuff. No thanks!

80's...my kids were small then. Epcot had some great rides. Innoventions was actually a lot of fun. Going to WDW didn't involve months-in-advance planning.

I said the 90s so I can ride Horizons and the old Seacabs in the aquarium (I vaguely remember them from my first trip there). But to be honest, I do like a lot of what they have at the parks now. Yes, Future World is a mess that needs a lot of help, but they are doing good in all the other parks. Looking forward to the new things in Hollywood Studios, and while I don't like Avatar at all, I think it will look cool in Animal Kingdom. I also like how interactive the characters are now. And while it wasn't a huge wow factor when it was first opened, I really like New Fantasyland.

Well said. Its refreshing to hear from someone who is content with their life and able to enjoy the place they are in. I'm hoping in a few years as my retirement comes, I can say the same things. Enjoy your time, family and good health !!!

I picked the 00's because that happened to be the best time for my husband and myself. We didn't have to plan months in advance. It was easy to just show up and get into places to eat, etc. A couple times they offered 7 days for the price of 4. There were times in Sept. of 07 and 09 that we were on buses totally by ourselves and the only ones in the pool. :D The 90's were awesome as well, so it was a hard decision. Once they started the "free dining" (cough, cough) it all got worse. The food courts were totally packed. The price of food skyrocketed for all to make up for said "free dining". :( So I would definitely go back a decade or more!!

The 90's because the parks were clean, and were less crowded during the winter months. Not to mention it was the Disney Decade, and there was an excitement and buzz in the air with all the new animated movies coming out at the time.

I assume the 80's were the same way (clean and less crowded), but I was too young to remember our '84 trip so I'll stick with the 90's.

This probably isn't the technical answer you're looking for, because I think you want me to compare and contrast the two side by side as though they could possibly exist each in the others decade, and I'm guessing that you have some preferences for the 90s in terms of quality of attractions, originality, the educational experience, the interaction between guests and CMs, etc, etc. I can't argue with you there but I'm at a point in my life where I realize that everything has changed. I try not to make comparisons in terms of old is better new is bad. I'd rather just be at peace with the fact that we live in a different time and what worked in the past doesn't necessarily work now. Younger people don't find the same value or interest in what we thought was great. The World as a whole has changed and the things that the public demands have changed as well. I choose not to spend time looking back and longing for what was or what might have been but instead I find the value and enjoyment in what I have available to me. I'm not trying to make a big speech or prove a point. I can tell that your pick is for the 90s and that you feel that those years were Disney's best. I don't actually disagree. You're probably right. I know you are. Except that I like Disney NOW. It makes me happy NOW. The OP asked what decade would we like to go back to. I'm at a really good place in my life. I don't want to go back in time. I'll take now. It's not perfect but I like it a lot. My answer is a reflection of the enjoyment that I get out of my current trips to Disney. I've never enjoyed myself more. This is a reflection of my life in general though and not simply an assessment of Disney. I apologize to the OP if I took the question in an unintended direction.

IMO the 90's was the renaissance of WDW...EPCOT was truly awe inspiring, MGM was fresh and new and the MK was clean and all but devoid of strollers, chipped paint and any vestige of electronica (cell phones, iPads or MM+). Of all 11 trips we have taken to the world I would gladly go back to 1996 anytime.

90s for sure, for many of the same reasons that have already been mentioned. One small example: My husband could spend hours in Communicore and that is only because I would drag him out to go see other attractions and that was back when it was half the size of Innoventions. Innoventions today is nonexistent. There are many more examples similar to that, especially for Epcot and HS. Although a little different, MK is probably about the same now as it was then in terms of quantity of rides. AK is fantastic but I didn't experience it then, so I would have to say that this Park is actually best NOW. 70's was probably the best for live entertainment in MK regarding quantity of acts.

Man, no love for the 80's! I was born in 1973 so I was a child of the 80's from the ages of 7-17. Epcot opened in 82 and was incredible that entire decade. MGM opened in 89 so that was at the tail end. I could wander around the MK alone without my parents when I was 10ish and it was completely safe. We would sync our watches and off I would go for a few hours by myself, then we would always meet back in front of the castle. Good times. The golden age of WDW if you ask me. But the 90's were great as well. You could still go in early December and the parks were near empty. This thread is really making me miss those decades!
