If you could bring back a ride etc for 1 day

Looks like horizons has the lead in extinct attractions that people would bring back for a day.

Lets expand this a bit, maybe in a new thread.

Of the top 3 extinct rides, which replacement is best: (please tell me if my reasoning is off)

Horizons (replaced for safety reasons??? The building was in bad shape, old sponsor long gone, better to replace than rebuild. Mission Space is now in it's spot.)

Mr Toad's wild ride (Replaced with Pooh ride. Beloved Popular frequented ride that was replaced for the most mysterious reason of the 3 rides mentioned here. The only reason I've seen is that the movie(not the 1997 one) is that "Wind in the willows" was last played in 1983 in my 2nd grade class)

20k leagues under the sea. - (not truly replaced - ariel's grotto takes up some of original area)

I would have to say Horizons has the most people that miss it, Mr toad has the most fanatical people that miss it, and 20K is 2nd in both those categories, but that is just my vote.

Discuss.....

Sorry if I'm the first to berake this to you but 20k is gone...
Mr. Toad was replaced because Pooh sells more merchindise
I don't know anything about horizions, though

I don't know who your breaking it to, but have you seen an aerial or satellite view of the MK? Ariels grotto does not take up the whole are of where 20k was. That is why I considered it a partial replacement. It is not a full fledged ride like mission space or pooh is. It is a basic water play area.

I am not sure merchandise alone is the culprit for mr toads wild ride. I dont think the little shop after generates anywhere near the portion of vacationer's dollars coming into to see rides. Haunted Mansion is still there, not much merchandising. They could have gotten rid of other rides.

As much as I disliked WDW's Mr. Toad attraction, I'll never understand why Disney feels the need to replace attractions. I mean, the whole reason Walt built there and bought as much land as he did was so that he would always have, and I quote, "the blessing of size." Pooh could just as easily have been made a part of Mickey's Toontown Faire...or they could have created a whole 100-Acre Wood area, complete with kiddyland, somewhere else. If something is broken or in need of repair, then fix it. Don't gut it.
That being said, I still want my fifth gate, Disney's Classic Adventures. And Horizons...gotta have Horizons.

Exactly...I was always upset when Disney replaced rides...theres so much room...why not just ADD to the parks...its weird

Maybe you don't understand, but 20,000 leauges has been leveled along with what they were calling Ariel's grotto. They completly demolished the area and cleared it. They currently have Pooh's Playful Spot built on the approx. area of Ariel's Grotto.
5 August 2004: 20k Leagues demolition update

As for Mr. Toad, merchandise was probally not the only reason, just the most prominent. Pooh merchandise sells more than you can imagine. On occasion, pooh outsells the main mouse himself. HM is left alone because it is a staple of the disney parks. Yes, it's true they could have built Pooh somewhere else, but instead of building a new show building, they chose to use exsisting structures, most likely to cut down on costs.

I am not sure who's right, but either way it's not a ride or attraction, on any scale similar to 20k, which was my original point.

Good pics though, looks gutted to me.

I don't mean to seem like I'm being mean, but judging by Join Date and Post Count, you haven't been here long and may not know everything thats been going on, which isn't your fault, I'm just trying to be helpful, so here's a some info about the 20k demolition straight from the WDWMAGIC arcived news:

23 April 2004: 20,000 Leagues clearing underway (Thanks to DJMathews)

The 7 month project to empty and clear the former 20,000 Leagues lagoon is now underway.

28 April 2004: 29K Leagues draining well underway (Thanks SeanR)

19 September 2004: 20,000 Leagues demolition update (Thanks to OrlPassholder)

Work continues on filling in the lagoon and demolition of the former show building.

7 July 2005: Pooh themed play area construction update

These photos show the Pooh themed kids area that is being built along the site of the former 20,000 Leagues area. (Thanks Drew)

2 September 2005: Pooh's Playful Spot photos

Opening day photos from the new kids play area, built on part of the area that was once 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea. This attraction is expected to be a temporary use of the area until a major attraction is located on the entire site of 20,000 Leagues.

all this can be found on http://www.wdwmagic.com/magic.htm and http://www.wdwmagic.com/magic2.htm

 There you go! Hope that clears things up.

I'm going to deviate back to the original topic for a moment...

I'd like to have AE back (because I never got a chance to see it, was too scared..but now i wish I had)

Also Wonders of Life and Journey into Imagination

For me it would have to be the skyway. Since my first trip was in 2001, I of course missed it. If not that, the original Journey into Your Imagination, for my best friend who loved it.

This may help:

That is approximatly what has been done with the 20k plot. The cleared land is still open for development.

I'd like to visit all the Future World pavilions in their original states, with the exception of Spaceship Earth (liked the Cronkite version better).

I'd also like to ride If You Had Wings, which I never got to ride.

I'd also like to ride the 1980s version of Space Mountain again. Anyone remember that the ride exit area was like before FedEx became the sponsor?

I don't know but it is between 20K or the sky way. Last time I rode the sky way was in 99 and I loved it because you could see the park from top and take good pictures. I do not remember when was the last time I rode 20k but I do remember that I loved riding it when I was a kid.

I think that solidifies it. Pooh playful spot IS the "replacment" for 20k.

I would like some kind of underwater ride as a replacement. Perhaps a Nemo themed one.(finding nemo). I know living seas is making itself over with more finding nemo stuff.

Well, 20k was long dead before they finally decided to clear it away and put in PPS, so it really dosen't matter. 20k was gone either way, in my opinin, a small, fairly temporary playground and plenty of space for a new E ticket, is better than a useless waste of space

AE hands down for me. It was my fav. attraction at WDW and now we have a very bad replacement. If I could bring back a attraction I have never been on, it would be the first JIYI.
