if you are going to the boardwalk area

I gotta go with merf on this one.
The duck, dog, cat, chicken, mouse, pig, horse (gotta be a small one though), goose, even if it’s mother goose, gator, swan or the occasional CM are going to lose when it comes to a choice between them or me. That’s just life. We should also mention all of the people who when they are in a group of oh 5 or more and string themselves across the walkway even though they are aware that the surrey bikes use the same walkway and then get upset when they have to move, Too bad! You don’t like crowds or things that people ride on, don’t go to WDW. The place is full of a lot things you’re not gonna like. Get over it and while you’re at it get over yourself. You me and the rest of us are just not that important. Enjoy the ride before some holier than thou force expels you from this ride called life.

Heading for the great escape.
When I slipped on the Boardwalk this summer perhaps it was my fault for not taking care of the micro organisms that live on the wood.

Guys I think this is drifitng a bit to much. Let's keep this WDW focussed. While the original post was about animals (and people) being hit, I think the main focus of this thread is the Surrey bikes, and not the worth (or not worth) of some aniamls VS others.
Thanks

All i was saying was look out for where you are going and be responsible for
your actions. Those things are friggin deadly...even to humans

most drive em like they are the only ones on the walk especially coming
down the hill where you go from the boardwalk to the beach club, you
know that little downhill where you pick up speed.
what fun are they really anyways? they should go bye bye

I had a great time while there.. and it was not disneyworld that made me upset at all...Did i express that at all? Not really, I was expressing my thoughts
towards the jerkasses as they have now been renamed and how ignorant
people can be riding these things.

So please do not tell me if i dont like it because its disney, dont go to disney
its the individuals that get us irked and how irresponsible they were acting.

for example heres another one.....I will never stop riding space mountain and will not blame disney or the cast members nor myself or merf for that matter( had to throw him in there...kidding of course)

2 females and one male are coming down the handicap line, one in a wheel chair. the guy in the wheelchair is prob mid 20's. arrive at the end of the aisle to get on to the ride. He gets up and out of the wheel chair waits a minute and sits back down cause they were not yet allowed in....does this 2 more times and finally gets allowed in, gets out of the chair, proceeds to stretch his legs.
My point. why do people do such wrong things. like this guy. Im not perfect
in any way but i have some form of common courtesy and try my best.

things people do these days are incredible and its a shame that this socitey now is vastly becoming like it is.

All i wanted to do was make sure the ducks had a chance in life. I did not
put my life in any danger that I would have died. I put my life in a position that just short of me being injured in any way I will try to stop the incident from happening and that was to scream and get their attention that there were animals in the walkway, please stop, slow down, goto the other side
and take notice that I am screaming at you for a reason not just for ha ha's

People do drive those surreys too fast sometimes. Maybe they should take a cue from NASCAR and put restrictor plates on them.

And I applaud you for trying to save the ducklings. In Birmingham, there is a species of salamander that once a year crosses a major highway to get to a body of water to spawn. College students volunteer to watch for them and stop traffic if they are in the road. Granted they are much more endangered than the ducks at WDW, but a life is a life. Although I do draw the line at roaches and mosquitoes.

I personally think that the OP is completely overreacting. Do people drive surrey bike recklessly sometimes? Probably. In the scheme of things, is it a huge deal? No. The OP described the surrey bikes as "deadly" and "no fun". This is a little exaggerated, is it not? I mean, the death rate involving surrey bike accidents in WDW is . . . nonexistent? And as for them "not being fun", that is your opinion. Many of us enjoy outdoor activity like this.

To jump out in front of a bike that you say is going very quickly makes you look like a crazy person in my opinion. Is a baby duck crossing a road the same as a child running out in to traffic? Absolutely not!

Frankly, I'd avoid hitting a puppy if it meant putting my vehicle and possible me in danger.

If you did this and got into an accident, you do realize that you would be legally responsible. And if you swerved to avoid hitting a puppy and got into a head on collision with a mother and her three children, would this be somehow honourable? There are times when we can avoid hitting animals but it is often not responsible to do so.

I'm sorry but this is offensive and completely irrelevant to your OP. There are plenty of people who have to use wheelchairs while in the parks for various reasons who still have some mobility. My 93 year old grandmother for instance or my 37 year old cousin.

The first point the OP made was with regard to the human pedestrians and the danger caused by the idiots on the surrey. Everyone is making more of a fuss about the ducks. Personally, I'd have jumped all over that surrey to slow down those morons for the safety of the people or ducks. I'm amazed that there haven't been more incidents with surreys. You have people drinking around the world in Epcot, taking a boat over to the Boardwalk and then, hey guys, lets' see how fast we can make this thing go!

Unfortunately, surreys are rented to all kinds of people so those who have no respect for the beauty of a group of ducklings can plunk down their money to wreak havoc on those on foot, webbed or not. I'd love to see the surreys go bye-bye.

however not when you witness that after getting off the ride he walks clear as day outside as his buddy pushes the wheelchair

and Im sure when the next ride came, oops, better get back in

its making a correlation to scenes witnessed that people do irrational things so they dont have to wait in line,
so that they think they own roads, walkways. That corelation being irresponsible actions taken by people
in a society of me me me....I stand by seeing this guy in the wheelchair and realize that when it is time for people
like that, well there is a special place for them...
I praise your grandmother that she needs a wheel chair and your cousin. And I make no discrimination by
saying EVERYONE in a a wheel chair doesnt belong in one....This guy was just plain as day
and HE was the one and only I was talking about

Again my whole point, Act responsibility.

This Thread Rocks!

Wow, this thread is much more entertaining than the typical arguments in other threads. Of course, it would be better if the people on the bike happened to be using their mugs from a prior trip while complaining about the Wand and the duck was pool-hopping.

I can't believe that in this day and age there are still people who are so ignorant when it comes to disabilities. You would have thought the same thing about my cousin. To look at him walk, you would probably think there was absolutely nothing physicallky wrong with him. However, he does need a wheel chair from time to time and a full day in a theme park would be one of those times. You can't judge a disability by looking. So you have no idea whether or not that 20-something man that you saw walking was "abusing" the system just because he was using a wheelchair and could walk well enough for your standards.

Not to be totally OT, but I agree...I've used a wheelchair on exactly one occasion due to a blood pressure problem that makes me pass out from time to time (like standing for more than 30 seconds). To look at me, I'm a perfectly healthy young woman...until I faint. I'm sure I was the subject of many a "that girl's cheating the system" remarks, but I don't really care.

ANYWAY...I'll agree that people should be more careful on the surrey bikes, but people who're walking need to be just as careful. I've seen people run & walk out right in front of them even with bells ringing, people shouting, etc. Maybe we could train the ducks...? :p
