If Horizons were to come back

If the impossible happened and they were able to bring back horizons would they even be able to pull off a ride like that today? I feel if it even was here today the way it was it would stick out like a sour thumb. I bet they would pull off an awesome ominax scene but couldn't picture them making scenery as good as the original. All I know is if they kept it running it would probably suffer the same refurbishment that Imagination and the ending of spaceship earth had.

Like Horizons? Then you'll love this blog:http://mesaverdetimes.blogspot.com/
This blog is written by two guys who LOVED Horizons (Mesa Verde was the name of the desert scene BTW) but to answer your question:
I don't think Disney would be able to recreate Horizons as richly as its first iteration. The Disney corporation seems to be all about quick and cheap now; I point to the horrible Captain EO's return. God forbid they actually allow some imagineering to be done, no, that would cost too much let's just recycle something and call it new.

Well, it depends on what you're asking ...

WDI has the technical expertise to pull it off. The ability is there. At least I think it is; it's hard to tell because they never get to use it to their full extent anymore. Which brings you to the second interpretation of your question (the one I think you meant): Would the bean counters give them the time and money to use the fullest extent of WDI's capabilities? And the answer to that is no. Not a chance. Not unless it was being built in Tokyo (with their money).

Well never see an attraction of that scope and detail again until whoever is holding the purse decides that the company is going to start approaching things for the long-term.

Yeah they could if they were given the same budget to destroy the M:S building and buil the old building again (I know a lot of people up here would love to see that). But honestly a lot of people wouldn't enjoy like they did back in the day. Tourist these days attention spans can't handle a dark ride talking about under sea living and all that. If it ain't a thrill the newer generations become less and less intrested. Why do you think they replaced World of Motion?

They should Kill universe of energy and make that horizons. The new horizons should be ways to take care of the earth and simple ways to make our own horizon. Make it 3D and have hydraulic omnomovers to make the ominax scenes a thrill scene is selected. Also make the backdrops 3D. Revive some classic scenes and add some new. Have a post show based on a house from the future and robots in each room giving the tour. Pretty much make the ride more about the world we live in and things that dont involve standard home living since things change so dramatically.

It's not about current tourists not having the attention span to handle a ride about undersea living, it's about creating an interesting attraction that PEOPLE WILL ACTUALLY RIDE (and want to ride, no less).

Say what you want about Mission: Space, but it is not only technologically a far superior attraction, but also brings in many more guests.

Horizons was a walk on on its final day for a reason.

Oh I agree with you whole heartedley. Mission: SPACE is my second favorite ride in Epcot and I don't understand why it recieved such a huge bashing on these boards. And it is far superior than Horizons. I bet if it didn't take Horizons away they wouldn't say the same thing. Horizons isn't coming back just forget it.

:ROFLOL:

Hey, if it's your favorite ride, then it's your favorite ride ... you will have obvious praise for the attraction. I get that. But to claim it's "far superior" is ridiculous. If Mission Space closed tomorrow, you'd have a handful of people upset for a year or so. Horizons has been closed a decade and Disneyphiles still point to it as arguably the pinnacle of Imagineering achievement.*

Some attractions stand the test of time (If You Had Wings, Horizons, original Journey Into Imagination, Cranium Command), even long after they are gone. Mission Space isn't even far superior to Mission to the Moon/Mars - and that was built in 1967.

*Typically debated in a conversation with Pirates, the Haunted Mansion, and the original JII and SSE.

I don't understand about the love for JII. It doesn't even fit the theme of future world. But that's ok because it's old right? MILF doesn't fit it's themed land and now everyone hates it. And that attraction is milestone also. I don't understand. What's up with that.

Mission: SPACE is superior. If it were to close today it wouldn't be a walk on like Horizons was on its last day.

I wish Mission Space would have more exhibits and maybe a 3D dark ride or a 3D Imax attraction.

I do to. There's a lot of potential for a space pavilion. Mission: SPACE can stay but it should have displays of NASA artifacts and what not. It should also have a planetarium. But we know our friends at TDO think that would be to amazing for Epcot.

If they built Horizons today, almost every scene would be some sort of projection, it would be much shorter, there would be lots of fiber optic stars, and your picture would be taken while on the ride and then shown to you so you can say "oh dur hur there I am! I look silly."

But it would be INTERACTIVE!!1
