With all the legal fighting going on does anybody wonder if Disney might actually loose the rights to Pooh.Id hate to see Disney loose such a lucrative character.

They would not loose the rights.
The persons who are suing to regain rights are simply trying to milk Disney for what they've got.

This is pretty much it. They know Pooh is worth nothing without Disney's marketing abilities, so they are just trying to gain a payoff or even a piece of Pooh's rights.

If Disney doesn't settle and loses the case and they have to share a piece of the Pooh pie with these other people, I wonder if we will see much less of Winnie the Pooh for a few years.

It would be a bad move in my opinion for them to try to take Pooh From Disney.I dont think any other company has the marketing power that Disney has that includes Theme parks,Consumer Products, and movies and cable.

They aren't necessarily trying to take Pooh from Disney, just regain rights to a character that was developed by a family member. I think the loss of Pooh would be great for Disney....then they could push someone (Mickey *cough*) else to take that place that they've allowed someone elses creation to take.

In my opinion, they've put too much emphasis on Pooh and his supporting cast and not enough on Mickey and co. When I think of Disney, it's not Pooh that I think about....

I think Disney made some shady deals to acquire the Pooh rights that they have, basically leaving the two other parties that own partial rights with nothing. I'm not a Pooh fan tho....if he goes, he goes....any other company that could possibly acquire him later wouldn't have to do much marketing to keep Pooh in the public eye. Disney didn't develop the Pooh look, it was already set so the whoever-would-be owners wouldn't even have to change his look or anything.

They could probably do the voices if a new company took over the rights. Unless they had a explicit contract stating that they could only do voices for Disney, which is highly unlikely.

Look at Angela Lansbury as a good example...she was Mrs. Potts, she did Anastasia's grandmother (?) for Fox and she's been in about 10 bazillion other animated cartoons...a couple of which were Disney products. Actually, she may be a bad example...at least in this case, but it's my shot of giving an example of how voice talent is hired for that certain thing and then once it's over, that they are free to do whatever they want. Mel Gibson has voiced a couple cartoon characters for different companies as well. I think voice actors are hired on as a needed basis, but are usually free to follow whatever course they choose when not being contracted by Disney.

It's an interesting question though.....

Actually, i don't think that's right. Disney developed the cartoony yellow version with the red shirt. What the Milne family would have the rights to would be the "classic" designs.
