  • We would need to purchase tickets for each ride
  • The Hall of Presidents would stop with Richard Nixon
  • There would be no Fast Pass
  • Jack Sparrow would not be in POTC!

Ahem, back to topic...
  • Every morning you would have to make a mad dash to the restaurants where you wanted to eat in order to make a reservation
  • You probably couldn't stay onsite, as the ony hotel (or two) would be very expensive and booked
  • If you could stay onsite, you would carry a room key, a paper park ticket (or book of tickets), and a wad of cash around with you
  • You would make fun of "Innoventions" where you could "send an email to people back home!" - uh huh. Whatever.
  • You would have to find your own transportation to and from the airport.
  • You would not be able to watch Wishes, Fantasmic, or Illuminations
  • The most interesting animals to be found would be birds on Discovery Island

It's not the change that I don't like, it's that what that change has brought has been pretty poor, in my opinion. I mean, what have we gained, really? Mission Space is a thrill ride plain and simple. Everest is a coaster, as is RnR. Tower of Terror is a thrill ride (a drop), and Soarin' is basically a movie with a funky seating arrangement. Test track at least has a little theming, even if it is really just a 3D version of every car testing commercial GM or any other car company has done.

I miss Horizons and Dreamflight and all, but I don't want to bring them back just as they were. What I want is for Disney to actually design a good ride again. Not just a coaster, not something to either draw in more teens or advertise their latest video offering. An honest, good ride.

I think I hear what your saying. (correct me if I'm wrong). Disney was at the fore-front of new types of rides in reguards to engineering and design. Now it's the same 'ride', just a different subject or theme.
As an example, Universals' Spiderman ride is a totally unique ride concept. This is what Disney need to do. Go back to the drawing board and conceive a new type of ride. The theming will come later, cause you can always apply the subject after the mechanics.

Then market forces would mean that Disney would have to replace bad attractions and build the best for it survive. At the moment it can build something and if it's not all that great it gets a low ridership but stays. If we paid per ride every ride would have to earn it's keep so rides would be of high standard to ensure they made the money and I think that parks would have more rides. The down side is areas like World Showcase wouldn't exist or would have an admission price due to the lack of rides and high cost of running.

Be able to listen to the steel drum band outside POTC

Catch a show and lunch inside the Diamond Horseshoe Revue

see the Fife and Drum corps in Liberty Square

Not have to walk through a gift shop when exiting most attractions...

I think change is a good thing, and I stand by a lot of what has come to pass lately, but the things I mentioned above (except the gift shop comment) were just done away with, not improved.

The opposite. It seems like now Disney simply finds the latest and greatest fad technology, and then finds a way to use it to hype up their movies. What I miss are the old ideas of finding a good theme and ride, even if it wasn't a thrill ride or something simple, and really doing a good job with the theming of it. Making it more than just a ride.
