Interesting! What about a castle cutout on one of the walls that sticks out about 6 or 8 inches from the wall. The castle could then fold out from the center like doors on a cabinet and the inside could be shelves. Also you could cutout the window areas and apply colored acetate over them and light them from behind. (just an idea I was wanting to do for my little girl's room and have not had the funds to fulfill it. Good luck on yours!

I'm not really good with the technical and budgeting aspects but here are some of my ideas:

*Have the bed be the castle. with the four pillars being designed to look like towers and turrets with disney princess dolls glancing out from inside the windows and balconies.

*have each corner/area of the room themed to a specific disney princess like having the bathroom be comletely themed to the Little Mermaid with seashells and Little Mermaid lamps and memorabilia with the place painted sea green. There ca be a play area themed to Jasmine with arabian style pillows and rugs adorning the place. the vanity could be based on Cinderella while the bed could be inspired by Sleeping Beauty with a mural in the back depicting the story of Sleeping Beauty (or whoever princess is her favorite). She can have another play area themed to Snow White which could look like a kitchen and mini household as if it were the Seven Dwarfs' cottage. A media center could be based on Beauty and the Beast with the furniture adorned with roses and little statuettes of the household objects from the movie

Thanks New2WDW. thats a great idea! I have a question however about the fiber optic stars. There was another thread with people kicking around ideas on how to purchase them, and i found a site to get them where you install them yourself for relatively cheap. My question is: If I install the fiber optic stars through sheetrock before it is on the ceiling, how do we put the sheetrock on the ceiling? I heard fiber optics cannot be placed at a 90 degree angle because of the lights transmittance, and also i am worried about putting a screw through them when screwing the sheetrock to the ceiling. How do I go about putting the sheetrock on the ceiling (flat to the ceiling, it cannot be lowered) without having the fiber optics at a 90 degree angle? Also, would it be possible to plaster the ceiling without affecting the fiber optics somehow? Thanks a lot guys, please respond!

By the way Mike, welcome to the boards!

As far as fiber optics go I have never worked with them. You would be better off not messing with the sheetrock as it would be difficult to finish off and paint. If you can wait I will call my Electrical Engineer Tuesday and ask him about the fiber optics. Is her ceiling below attic space? Can you drill holes down thru the sheetrock at an angle to install them?
How much will this portion of your design take out of your budget? I know the fiber optics our cool, but there are also kits to put glow in the dark stars/dots on your ceiling which may give you a similar effect minus the big bucks. Also, like stitchcastle discussed, come up with your overall theme and work out your budget. Talk with you later.

Just a minor idea. Pick a number that is significant to you guys, and hide that many hidden mickeys into the decor. Be it in faux finishing or other method, make it a challenge like the bakers do on the gingerbread displays.

Another concept (although I REALLY like the Castle idea) would be if she likes the parks. Create a magnet wall with the parks and their attractions. You can mount a simple metal sheet onto the wall, trim it out in a wooden frame (painted with the park logos, creations of the four icons, or some other motif), and make cutouts of the park attractions that are mounted with magnetic tape on the back. I personally would suggest wooden pieces cut out to replicate the shapes off the maps, but other ways could work. That would take a bit of time, but it is something that could grow with her. If Disney adds on, add another magnetic piece to the wall. Also, as she grows up, these are things she could keep for sentimental value even if the room itself is no longer intact.
