Idea: Trip Countdown Timer

I have seen other Disscussion boards that look simmulat in style and format to WDWMAGIC> Is this a commercially avai;able program? The reason I ask is these simular boards have a countdown feature for there next trip to WDW. Is there a way you could add a countdown feature to the boards instead of doing it manually??

I must admit that in a moment of weakness I strayed onto a similar type of discussion forum and saw the countdown markers,
I think they're a good idea and don't take up that much room down amongst the signatures at the bottom of the page.
However, there has been a thread in the last couple of days discussing have pictures at the bottom (similar theme) and they were removed within the last 6 months as the size of them just grew and grew.
So, as much as I would like to see a countdown clock, I don't think we will for much the same reason.

You say that steve removed the pictures under the signatures because they kept growing. How does that relate to the countdown clock. if I understand the program it is controled by the codecs and has a finite size. I went to the jelsoft website to get more info on this program and as I understand it. the counter doesn't take as much bandwith as the pictures in the signatures did.
I also noticed that there are still members that still have the ability to show the pictures in the signatures. I think if we can't have them now the other members should have them removed if ther is an issue as to the bandwith it took to support them.

I would still like to get steves take on this because calculating it manually is going to be a pain in the _________ for me every time I post .

Hi,

The Countdown script is a chunk of code that has to be hacked into the forum. The reason it isnt in here so far is that any kind of hack requires modification to the original forum code, meaning that it can cause system instabilities and also problems whenever a new release of the forum software becomes available. It isnt a question of bandwidth. I will look into it again to see how involved the hack is.

All members have the same signature rights. Nobody has any additional rights in that area.
