Idea on improving Disney's Hollywood Studios

This is not, a rumor nor news, as I'm not even sure the Disney company knows about it.

I was reading online that Debbie Reynolds has a HUGE collection of movie memorabilia, and she was going to open a museum in Tennessee, to show it all off. However, she ran into problems with building contracts and financial support from the surrounding area, and so she never opened the museum. Rumor has it she now is going to have to auction off the items. The reason Ms. Reynolds collected all of this stuff was too help preserve Hollywood history, and to teach people interested in the medium of it.

Now it may end up in private collectors hands, and be rarely seen. Items included in this collection; Judy Garland's outfit from The Wizard of Oz (including ruby slippers), Marilyn Monroe's white dress from the subway grate scene, Julie Andrews peasant dress from Sound of Music, and countless other items from the likes of Brando, Gable, Gene Kelly, Orson Welles, and others.

The only reason I was bringing this up is because it truly is an insane collection in terms of the items, and VERY significant to Hollywood history. Also it sounds like a similar situation to the Osbourne Lights. I would think it would also help bring fans of these stars to the park, if for no other reason to see those artifacts. One of the things I enjoy, though it rarely changes is the AFI Showcase.

I was curious what you all thought about it, though again, this I don't think is remotely on Disney's radar sadly.

It is correct there are several ruby slippers. And there used to be a pair of them at the Great Movie Ride, as you can still to this day see in front of the Chinese theater in the footprints, prints made by those shoes at Hollywood Studios. Most movie props, especially clothing there are duplicates of so if anything happens to one of the items, they don't have to build a new one or try to fix it, they simply go back stage and get another.

One of the biggest reasons I thought it would be good for Hollywood Studios is because the collection, by being Debbie Reynolds' collection it would be connected to Hollywood. Dont's forget in the preshow for the Great Movie Ride, they show Reynolds in the Great Movie Ride. The props themselves also are not average movie props, as some of them involve the most major or iconic movies or scenes in film history. Also they afre several different genres and stars, so it's far more likely to interest people of various tastes.

I also thought if handled correctly, Disney might not even have to buy the collection, which is quite pricey, but simply make an arrangement with the Reynolds/Fisher families to display the collection. Honestly from what I have read about the situation, the family isn't as interested in the money as much as they are interested in keeping it together and displaying it. But I could be wrong about that.

Well if it were ever to be brought to DHS I would love to tour it! It sounds like it would fit in well with the original plan of the "Hollywood that never was but was always dreamed about". I bet (depending on the collections size) they could even place it in one of the empty buildings or old attractions such as Sounds Dangerous. As others have said I doubt it is on the Mouse' radar, although it would be a wonderful addition to the park.

It would be fantastic if they could incorporate this into the Chinese Theater/GMR queue.

My thoughts exactly! I am glad I read all the posts this time! If they could incorporate the artifacts into the movie ride at the entry queue or at the ending in a rerouted exit, with the classic actors that is represented, this would be the perfect place for it, since TGMR is a classic in itself! Just my thoughts
