Idea for a fifth themed area (a new entertainment district) at Disney Springs (and map/diagram)!

Hi all,

I was thinking while they are at it, they could widen the off-ramp from I-4 that leads to Disney Spring's Orange Garage from one to two lanes. The ramp that leads to the surface level parking could be modified to enter the new garage to the west of the Orange Garage in a way very similar to the existing ramp that leads into what I believe is the third level of the Orange Garage. That would help with the flow of traffic into Disney Springs. The overpass over Buena Vista Drive would be widened accordingly.

Works for me -- it would definitely facilitate traffic flow to the new parking garage

I was thinking that on or next to the wharf with the Ferris Wheel on it I'm patterning after the Santa Monica Pier and calling the St. Petersburg Pier, there would be a modest sized aquarium complex like the Aquarium of the Bay next to Pier 39 in San Francisco. There would be a small fee to tour the aquarium, maybe $10 to $20 per person.

Interestingly, I checked the news and rumors forum and there is talk of a possible 4th parking garage exactly where I had in mind. There is even talk of expanding the West Side into the parking lot I have slated for Recreation Point. The post went up yesterday morning while mine went up yesterday afternoon. I would have posted my ideas in the morning as well, but was busy and had to remember my username and password since it had been so long since I last posted. That's crazy that the rumor for what I had in mind went up at the exact time I was coming up with my idea yesterday. While I check the news and rumors section often, I hadn't looked at it for two or three days. Crazy!

Hopefully, the powers that be see the need for added entertainment venues rather than just additional shops. I think it would add variety to Disney Springs instead of just making it any other outdoor shopping mall experience.

I was wondering what kind of boat could be anchored at the pier. I was leaning towards the tramp steamer from Raiders of the Lost Ark since it would be from around the right period. Plus, it would be about the right size for the pier I am envisioning. Anything larger would probably make the pier look tiny. However, what purpose could the boat serve? If it is a restaurant, then perhaps it could serve Mediterranean or Greek food since that is where the tramp steamer was sailing when it was intercepted by the German U-Boat. Maybe the restaurant could be called Sallah's.

I was thinking that perhaps in addition to Roller Derby, there could also be Roller Hockey or Inline Hockey at "The Disney Derby." Consequently, the arena could be the same size as "The Disney Arena" ice skating rink. Meaning, between 4,000 to 6,000 seats. The Expo Square Pavilion I'm basing this on in Tulsa, Oklahoma seats a little more than 6,000 (4,500 permanently) in an art deco arena. The floor can accommodate international/olympic hockey with a floor around 100 feet wide. Perhaps with removable acrylic panels, the arena floor can be reduced to 85 feet wide for NHL play if necessary. In any event, the two facilities, "The Disney Derby" and "The Disney Arena" where you also have Disney on Ice, could be mirror images of each other. I don't see any problem with having the roller skating rink be the same dimensions as the ice skating/hockey rink. If the wooden floor of the roller skating rink and the ice floor of the ice skating rink were say on the second level, that would allow for the bottom floor to be filled by shops, restaurants, etc., to better utilize the land that would be taken up by these facilities. Here are some pictures to give an idea of what I'm envisioning:

Here is a proposed map of Recreation Point with all of the venues! The two arenas are rendered to scale (each being about 250 feet by 350 feet), as is the Casino (about 180 feet in diameter with some protrusions). Some of the other buildings are guesstimates given the available land in the affected parking lots. For instance, the shops don't have to be triangular, but I was limited by the painting tools in PowerPoint.

Hi all,

I was thinking in the evening at "The Disney Derby," there could be a show similar to Disney on Ice but for Inline Skates (Roller Skates). It could be called Disney's Dancing on the Promenade. It would be a show wholly unique to Walt Disney World and would not be found elsewhere. Professional skaters could wear Disney costumes like Disney on Ice, but have a unique show that complements the neighboring Disney on Ice show in "The Disney Arena." During the day at both arenas, performers for both Disney's Dancing on the Promenade and Disney on Ice could skate along side guests in their costumes. It would be the ultimate Meet and Greet since they could skate with the guests and have pictures taken that guests could purchase for souvenirs.

Update: (They could also differentiate the two shows by having an exclusive Disney on Ice show not found elsewhere around the world that revolves around more recent characters from such movies as Frozen, The Little Mermaid, Aladdin, Mulan, Moana, Pocahontas, Tinker Bell, The Lion King, and Beauty and the Beast, while the Disney's Dancing on the Promenade show could emphasize such classics as Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty, Alice in Wonderland, The Lady and the Tramp, Pinocchio, Bambi, and Fantasia.)

Great idea! Funny I used to work as an emt and for my school arena they had Disney on Ice and I covered the event so I got to see it through the first aid room lol -- it was a neat show. It'd work well with your adjustments.

@Corey I think this was the thread you were referencing? -- that's really cool how one day you say add a new parking garage and the next it becomes an actual news/rumor item!:geek:

It was kind of coincidental. Though the rumor circulated before my post. I just was unaware of it at the time. Maybe my idea wasn't as original as I thought. Though, the building of the fourth garage to the west of the Orange Parking garage seems like a no brainer since it would be a lot easier getting traffic into and out of it rather than going to the far parking lots to the north of Cirque du Soleil.

I've revised my proposed map of Recreation Point by moving the Avalon Casino, Broadway Show, Music/Dance Clubs, and Restaurant to the south, along with the pier, the carousel, steamship/restaurant, and Aquarium. To keep the art deco theme, I thought of housing the Aquarium in a second Avalon Casino. The Aquarium Avalon Casino would be similar to the picture of the actual Avalon Casino, but taller since there will be more floors in it like the other Avalon Casino I imagined that will house the Broadway Show, Music/Dance Clubs, and Restaurant.

I hadn't thought of that. The period depicted in Edison Square would be several decades before the art deco theme I had in mind for Recreation Point. However, it could work. I'd have to think of other designs than the Expo Pavilion from Tulsa for the arenas and the Casino for the aquarium and broadway show, etc., but it could work.

Maybe the two arenas and the other buildings housing the clubs, Broadway show, restaurant, shops, and aquarium could have an art nouveau feel to them, kind of like the G.U.M. department store, now mall, in Moscow next to Red Square. Here's a picture:

(Additional thought: This building would be great for a Main Street U.S.A. set in a new theme park from that era (1890's early 1900's) since it is three stories tall and has a curved glass ceiling stretching the entire length of the building over a promenade. The glass covered promenade reminds me a little of the steel and glass roof that covers the Main Street at Tokyo Disneyland's World Bazaar. The promenade in this building would need to be widened so as to accommodate the level of traffic on the different Main Street U.S.A.'s at Disney theme parks around the world. As for the building itself, since there are four sections to it, you could have wings going off to the side at each central point making them into intersections. I had that thought when I looked at the building just now.)

(Yet An Additional thought: You might have a Main Street U.S.A. with two G.U.M. malls alongside. One could enter some of the stores that face Main Street U.S.A. from Main Street itself. At the end of the night, when there is some kind of fireworks show, the promenades in each G.U.M. building could serve as an exit route for guests, similar to the Discovery Arcade and Liberty Arcade found in Main Street U.S.A. in Disneyland Paris.)

I checked the dimensions for the G.U.M. mall and it is 794 feet long, making it about twice as long as the street section minus the square section of Main Street U.S.A (which is about 350 to 400 feet long). The building is considerably wider than the shops on either side. Having two malls that are the same size as the G.U.M. building flanking Main Street would make for a much longer Main Street and would have the added benefit of in essence having two parallel side streets.
