Don't take this the wrong way, but, I am not sure they HAVE a ride boneyard...they re-use an awful lot and probably destroy the rest. America Sings "boneyard" is Splash Mountain...broken animatronic Presidents end up with their faces transplanted on attractions such as Spaceship Earth...rides get sent from one park to another and re-used. Elements of the old submarine ride at DL are incorporated in the Captain Nemo ship in DL Paris. I believe the "old" monorail in Vegas bought the old Disney monorail trains. THose have since been replaced by the new monorail and new trains. So, that monorail's "boneyard" is somewhere in Nevada. Ride vehicles from one dark ride have neen refurbished to reuse on other dark rides. The newer rides build units (i.e. doombuggies) which you can throw out the old one and replace it with a new or refurbished one. Dumbo got refurbished a while ago - some of the dumbo "cars" are on tour with the Disneyland 50 museum tour...others are scattered around the country. Same with Mr. Toad's wild ride -- although perhaps some of those cars are still in storage somewhere. If someone knows of an actual "boneyard" it probably would be cool to see that. Maybe if someone has done one of the "backstage tours" at WDW they might have seen a few things.

There is an actual boneyard, its located over near the backstage of Space Mountain. I dont know if this is the only one though. They have/had a bunch of old vehicles in there.

I do know there are a few speedway shells and dumbo's sitting back behind Mickies toontown fair.

and behind epcot is what is left of the scale nautlaus and the ship that was destroyed by the hurricane.

Yes, bone yards exsists...
Their are some random places where they've sent old props and such, and there's a warehouse somewhere... but they do reuse what then can, or as of late, they've been auctioning off some of it.

There's also a great deal of vechiles outside of Central Shops. Not exactly completly "retired" but have definately seen better days, as they have not been through the shops yet. The SSE vechile was pretty interesting, without blue paint or doors.

The submarine and Ship at Epcot are pretty cool as well...I remember many people commenting that on our way to Candlelight. Google Earth shows some of the boneyard just to the east of Space Mountain.

There's also a huge, metal, dinosaur-like sculpture behind Central Shops, on the same side as the train roundhouse. I'm not sure what it was used for.

The dino used to come out of the fountain stage at Epcot as part of a show that took place there - the stage is actually hollow underneath and the little building next to Mousegear that looks like Odyssey is the control booth for the stage.

Anyways - elsewhere at Epcot, behind Wonders is an Imagineering building and some props like minisubs (either from older Seas exhibit or from Horizons) hang out in front of it, and then behind Wonder and Energy they keep old SSE vehicles. Inside the lower levels of Wonders (under the Body Wars area) they have the exercycles tucked away near air handlers, and in the not-so-pretty parts of SSE they have various props and some cool vintage photos.

Yes, but does anyone have any pictures? Also, on google earth, create an earth community link to some of the sights. There are a few already created for the Nautilus submarines to the east of Space Mountain. To view them, place a check on the right lower menu for "Google Earth Community." If you have not downloaded this program yet, do so! It's free and addicting.

Regarding the dino, someone else told me that it was used at Epcot, but since I couldn't confirm it, I didn't mention it. Thanks for the knowledge! :)

My favorite "graveyard" at Epcot is the display in the VIP lounge at SSE. The case features pics of Epcot's opening, an EPCOT CENTER commemorative opening day book and medal, a crystal replica of SSE, and more. It's a huge nostalgia trip (even though the replica is from the millenium, and features the wand). And the view out of the lounge (the row of windows facing the fountains) is gorgeous. I have pics; if I can find them, I'll post them.

Monorail Cars Awaiting Their Destruction

Hello All,
First the backstory:
I am glad I finally found a WDW centric site like this. We mostly likely all know of a very popular website that is more DL centric though one of their founders now lives out here in Orlando. I worked in "The Zoo" from 1985-92ish, was always a CT, and never desired turning Perm. Dinsey became a client of my photography company, The 37th. Frame (now Lepow Photo) when I started to shoot the concerts and special events at Pleasure Island. My relationship (other then as a stock holder) ended in 1999 when the company decided that end my handshake agreement and hired a shooter that charged less then what I paid for film per night. In one decision they started to save over $200.00 per night by hiring a person that I mentored from Crealde School of Art.

The image of the mothballed monorail cars is what brought me to this site
. My stats have been going way upward in the past 24 hours due to that image. If you have no idea what I am talking about, http://www.lepowphoto.com/product_in...3efd754d43c0db

I found the location of the dump's general area when I helped a person from wardrobe haul a bunch of costumes there one day. I saw what looked to be the monorail cars, but was not show if they were testing new evac procedures so I flew over in a friend's plane a couple of days later and the cars had already been pushed together and in the process of being destroyed. To say the least, the image has not been approved by the Walt Disney Co. It is not in the public domain, nor are prints of it for sale.

Enjoy the image and as I come across some other mothballed Disney pix, I will let y'all know.

Sincerely,
Mark E. Lepow
