Sorry, I'm really tired tonight but I did post a bunch of pictures in the pictures section. There are a few comments in there as well… I will say this: I thought it was all pretty cool but I don't think it will be anything at all like the 25 year or Millennium celebrations… It's definitely not as big and the subject matter (Walt's life) is not something that's going to appeal to a lot of guests (especially the younger ones).... Overall, I did like it, though :D

I'll talk more about it later...

I've just finished reading Walt's life story and although I have no doubt that the man was a Genius both creatively and in business, significant events in his life seemed only conected with his ambitious dream. I think any portrayal of his life would not entertain young minds. Oh dear am I going to get :hammer:
for saying this.

Are you saying he was only "one dimensional", two at most? ;)

The Walt Disney Story

I am 35 years old, and I can say that it was indeed an old attraction in the Magic Kingdom called "The Walt Disney Story" that in fact started everything for me when I was young. It may not have appealed to all, but everyone I know who saw it or got to know the real Walt Disney story as a youngster was similarly inspired. I have not been to the new attraction, but I think the new attraction at MGM should help to bring kids up to speed. True, so may not go in, but those who do I think will come out with a real understanding of Walt's dream, which by the way was not narrowminded. In fact, I posit that you cannot really understand Walt Disney World, nor especially EPCOT, without understanding Walt.

When I was young the Walt Disney Story attraction (which is available today on video) helped me see the lines that started with cartoons and film, and went through the audio-animatronics for the 1964 World's Fair, and ended in the vision for EPCOT as a place for new learning and experimentation of the advancement of the human race. It made the Carousel of Progress and even the idea of EPCOT make sense! I have missed that attraction ever since. I hope the new attraction helps to fill that void.

Now, will it or the rest of the celebration generate excitement? I still think part of that depends on the media and the blitz that should come later. Older Americans still remember Walt very fondly, and this should be a good time to re-introduce him and his ideas and storytelling style to a new generation. I personally think that the Walt Disney Company should itself be using Walt Disney World more on television anyway. The success of Animal Planet and the Discovery Channel shows that there is a huge audience for the types of things that EPCOT and the Animal Kingdom could showcase easily. Walt often produced "True-to-Life" animal adventures for the Disneyland show on Sunday nights and other shows. There is no reason why live animal or science-oriented shows for kids or general audiences could not originate weekly or daily from WDW. It would: (1) have a guaranteed audience, (2) help fulfill Walt's dream of a place to learn and play together, (3) advance interest in science and culture, and (4) showcase Walt Disney World as more than the Magic Kingdom.

So, I don't know how much the current emphasis on Walt's life and his accomplishments will play, but I do know its potential...

OK, I know that many of us have dabbled with dual identities on the forum but I just want to say, before anyone can accuse me, that I am not "prberk".:D

Anyone who has been here for any length of time, knows what I'm talking about and why I think people might be suspicious. :)
