I want the Masking Tape Concession

In AK, why do they continue to use masking tape for the parade route? If ropes don't work in MK, how is tape on the ground going to help. Wouldn't it be better to, say paint the walkway a different color for permanent delineation? As AK is supposed to be the ECO-friendly park, I just can't imagine wasting that much tape every day. :veryconfu

I would guess that it is because the pathways at AK are a lot more open and there isn't much to attach the ropes to.

I only change it like every other week or so... I might end up going through some old ones, unless I can come up with some fresh ideas.

GREAT QUESTION!!!

Seems it would be easy enough to color the viewing area and not be too disruptive to the atmosphere. But also expensive. The tape must be cheaper!

:zipit: <---OOOPS! Got carried away with the tape!!!

Most of the park has switched to poles and ropes except for our area (Africa bridge to Island Mercantile). Personally I would like to see lines embedded in the ground like at MGM. :D

Tape is still used at MK in certain areas. Infact, there is one CM that does a really cool thing with the tape. They make these cool swivel designs on the pavement.

The tape is used for the entrance/exit locations along the parade route and where the handicap locations are so it's easier to move in and out of place.

Tape was also used for the Tapestry(s) at Epcot. It is safer in small tight areas - much of AK's walkways.

In the event of a major emergency, the parade will stop, and guests will flow into the parade route to exit quickly. With ropes in a confined area, you prevent that flow and create a possibly dangerous situation - remember the boy Tom Cruise saved from being crushed behind police barricades? Ropes can act in a similiar manner. You'll notice in other areas of the parks that ropes blocking critical escape paths have magents instead of lobster clips so that they breakway - a parade route rope cannot work functionally with a magnet, so in some instances for safety they are not used at all.

I thought that you were going to say that they make "tape animals." :lookaroun

I guess that I was thinking about the towel animal thread! :p

Indeed, my area contains the only emergency exit for Mickey's Jammin' Jungle Parade. A few weeks ago we used it when it started pouring just after the parade stepped off. Gotta love the six minute parade!

It seems to me like AK was designed without parades in mind. Did Disney not realize they would do a parade? It's not like they do one at every other park they have. The walkways seem too narrow for larger floats. That's just my 2 cents.
