Seeing the new AA's for the Mine Train, and all of the new Disney rides with a trackless system makes me want an AIW dark ride even more! Just imagine the possibilities! I think they could really pull off some cool effects.
It's not quite what you're imagining, but there is an Alice dark ride in Disneyland.

Alice is easily the second most popular dark ride in Fantasyland at Disneyland. I find it interesting that Alice is the only DL Fantasyland dark ride that's never been put anywhere else.
The maze in Paris recycles some of the figures, but yes it's strange.
