I think my left chest and shoulder hurt from coughing so much

I have been sick with sinus infection and fever for over a week. Yesterday I went to see doctor and I now am taking the Amoxicillin for my sinus infection or whatever it is that I have.

But last night I noticed my left chest started hurting. Today my left shoulder started hurting. The pain can be very intense and at first I was almost afraid to cough again.

Trying to sleep is almost Impossible. Now if I was somone who could always sit still when I sit down and someone who can always be still when I am laying down to sleep and all that this may not would be so bad. But I am not that kind of person. I am someone who likes to move my legs when I am sitting down and I like to toss and turn when I am sleeping.

With this left chest and shoulder pain I have to sleep on my back and try to be still (well I might be move my legs a little bit). If I try to turn to the left or right the pain in my left chest and shoulder starts to hurt. I just could not take this so I am seeing my doctor again today at 5.

I am not sure which is worse between these 2

1. The feeling of having to lay in bed on my back and not having the freedom like I usually do to move around a little bit. And I get stressed because I can't turn my body.

2. The awful pain that comes in my left chest and shoulder.

Anyways right now I am sitting up by my computer so the pain in my left chest and shoulder does not feel so bad. When I sit up I feel better. It's when I lay down or lean back that the pain comes. But I need to get some sleep sooner or later. So I hope the doctor can help. I will be sure to explain to my doctor that it's hard for me to be still and that is a big reason why I am having so much trouble with all of this.

You need something strong to stop the cough so your body can heal. I tore cartiledge in my ribcage a few years ago and needed codeine to stop the cough so I could heal - the pain lasted for months (to the point where my 6 year old remarked - you still have that pain?) I hope your's isn't so severe and can be fixed quicker - good luck. And feel better.

As a side note - I hope a pea didn't sprout in your lung (did you see that story on yahoo today?)

I don't know if I am quiet that bad. But I will have the doctor really check me out. I think more than likely my chest just got sick of all the coughing and needs a break or it's something like that. But like I said I will still have the doctor really look me over.

With the Amoxicillin that I am taking for my whole sinus infection I should start to notice it's magic by tomorrow. I took it 2 times yesterday after I saw the doctor at about 4:45 yesterday. Today I start with the 3 times a day every day. Since this is an antibiotic and not just something to help you feel better it could knock off what has been causing me to cough very soon (I hope it does).

Good luck! We'll be sending magical thoughts your way!

Thanks so much.

The doctor was able to see me before 5 pm. They called me and asked if I wanted to come now. The doctor checked out out and it's not anything really series. Seems like I have tense and/or pulled muscle from being sick and coughing. He told me to take Aleve 2 pills in the early part of the day and 2 pills in the later part of the day. I hope this Aleve stuff takes the pain away fast :)

I have been kinda trying not to cough as much. Also when I do cough I kinda watch how I cough. By coughing the way I am now it's not putting as much pressure on those muscle. When I can't hold back a cough much longer I kinda plan the cough so to speak. It's still putting pressure but not as much pressure.

I actually notice I am feeling a little better. Maybe this Aleve stuff is allready working :) I am thinking if I watch myself today, by tomorrow between the Aleve and Amoxicillin maybe the cough will be about gone. Also I think that might be another reason why the doctor wanted me to get the Aleve. Not only can it make my muscles feel better but it also temporarily relieves like the common cold and might can help me stop having to cough as much.

Also the doctor did not charge me for this visit so that was really nice. This is kinda like a family place in a way. We are not releated to the doctor and his wife, but we are kinda good friends so in a way it's kinda like family. Every now and then we talk to the doctor wife over the phone if we have a question about something.
