I really miss the Osborne lights, anyone else?

I miss the original Osborne lights. The last version just didn't hold a candle to the original and were too much crammed into one spot. I don't actually miss that version much at all.

I liked both for different reasons, the original for reminding me of childhood where every house on the street had at least some lights. The modern version showing an idealized 50's city with lights everywhere.

Not to mention the hours of fun spent finding the purple Halloween cat.

While people were enjoying the lights they were not dining, shopping or drinking. That did not help PRGS So the lights had to go.

Disney has forgotten that people visit theme parks to be ENTERTAINED. But WDW has gradually become and run like a Mall with a cover charge.
...or the SOA area was knocked down to make room for a Star Wars Land and there wasn’t a practical place at DHS to include that type of show.

In this case the lights being removed had nothing to do with merchandise sales or Disney being a business at all. If it was than why was it replaced with a different kind of light show including the projections on ToT which also would keep people from shopping and drinking? They could have tried setting up the lights at DS. An argument could be made that since DS is free not having them there is a business decision, but it also has logistical issues around crowd control and they would need 3rd party vendors to buy into having lights all over their store fronts. I’m sure the vendors wouldn’t mind the extra foot traffic though.

You are deluding yourself if you think this had anything to do with anything but expense reduction.
There is no limitation saying this must be at DHS.

Personally i think SWL should have been its OWN gate not shoehorned into DHS

There are vast expanses at EPCOT where this show could have had a third iteration it would have been different but still amazing if Disney had the desire to do so which they manifestly did not.

I don’t disagree they could have chosen to use the lights somewhere else. Not sure how or where they would fit at EPCOT but like I said DS was an option. But that’s not the point. Your original statement was that the lights were removed because guests were stopping to see them instead of buying food and merchandise. That’s just simply not true and makes no sense since they added a new night Christmas show at a different location in the park.

Over the top, a little bit, but it did make it feel more like Christmas. That thing on the ToT doesn't make it feel like Christmas; that's for sure.
The new ToT show honestly helped, though. I don't love shows where I need to stand or sit in a packed crowd and wait for 9pm. I would much rather the several hour continuous running show I can walk through as desired. This was something that Osborne had, and that ToT also possessed.

Miss it dearly. Whether on Residential Street or Streets of America, there was nothing like it.

It's a shame Disney does not have a light display anywhere else. Sure, Main Street and Cinderella's look pretty, but they do not convey the same spirit of Christmas that the Osborne Lights did.

After 15 runDisney race weekends, the highlight STILL was running through the Lights for Wine&Dine. Better than through the Castle, or my first coast to coast. It was breath taking and at the perfect spot within a 13miler for the push to the end!
