Trip Report I must have WDW fever!? (completed)

Hey WDWMagic friends! My name is Kim and I've never attempted to write a trip report before. I do read them all the time, and appreciate them so much between trips. I thought I would try and return the favor. It was also a fantastic trip and I would love to relive it once again. I've been home less than 2 weeks and miss it terribly!

I have to explain the title, "I must have WDW fever". I have had a fever for over a year now that just won't go away! I guess the official name would be Fever of Unknown Origin. This trip was first scheduled for January, then moved to April. I kept rescheduling in hopes that I would be fever free in time to visit Mickey. No such luck. I also had a surgery in between and had to recover from that. Our annual passes were set to expire on July 1st and we needed to go before that. That made this trip from June 22 - July 1st. Yep, I waited for summer in Florida to go with a fever. :)

Trip:
June 22 - July 1st
2 nights at Port Orleans - Riverside (Royal Room) & 7 nights at Pop Century

Who:
My mom (Barb) & I (Kim)
DSC02693.JPG

We both look forward to these trips! It is really perfect because we get along so well and pretty much enjoy the same things.

I hope you'll enjoy reading about our time at the Most Magical Place on Earth!

Wow love the pool pic :) Can imagine making a swim in there!! Although that probably will have to wait until 2016 :) 2015 we will explore the pool of POFQ as you know :)
@FlaggNL, you CAN use the pool(s) at Riverside this year when you stay at French Quarter! Guests of both these "sister" resorts can swim in any of the pools on the Port Orleans property. :p

Thanks! We actually swam in both Riverside & French Quarter pools. :)

I am getting hungry looking at that picture of the Mickey waffle.
I know. I have a Mickey waffle maker at home that I bought at Mousegear in Epcot a handful or so years ago. Not as good as eating there but still fun.

Great start, I love the running shoes!!
Thanks!

Yes! We did just that! :)

So after our swim at Riverside we decided to leave the pool and take the short walk over to French Quarter and explore that resort a bit. The walk is really pleasant because it follows the river. We were soaked because we didn't take very much time to dry off and are clothes were now wet with our suits on under. I am sure we got some second looks as we passed people.:joyfull:
IMG_0575.JPG

French Quarter is another beautiful resort with a lot of thoughtful details.
IMG_0574.JPG

Now I have to give some thanks here to the good people of WDWMagic. I came to this resort for two reasons. First to have some fun in the pool. The second reason is because of reading on here about how they serve Beignets. We had never had them before and felt we needed to change that. So off to Sassagoula Floatworks and Food Factory we went. Good decision!

IMG_0587.JPG

We split these between the two of us. Let me say that we could have had our own orders they were so good! It was about 1:30 at this point and I thought maybe I should order a little lunch to help neutralize the sugar. I ended up just getting a pizza kids meal because I wasn't too hungry but felt I should eat something.
IMG_0589.JPG

We were now ready to check out the pool. Had to also take some pictures. :D

Pool time!
IMG_0593.JPG

My mom wanted to try this waterslide. She went down this one quite a few times.
IMG_0599.JPG

We really enjoyed spending time at French Quarter. We would love to plan a stay here sometime.

Following along! Our goal for our next Moderate level stay is Port Orleans French Quarter, but that Royal Room looks tempting! We too consider Pop a kind of "home resort." Love that you and your mom take trips together!

I would have an awful time choosing between the two. They are both great! My mom and I have such a good time together all the time, but especially at WDW. We like a lot of the same things. :)

After taking time to enjoy the resorts we were ready for our next must do at Riverside. We wanted to ride the Sassagoula Water Taxi to Downtown Disney. We thought we would get lunch there and then peek through a few stores. It wasn't going to be a long trip to Downtown Disney because we wanted to still get to Disney Hollywood Studios. We didn't have lunch plans so we decided on the boat ride over that we would try out T-Rex if they were accepting walk-ins.

IMG_0620.JPG

The ride over was very pleasant and we both enjoyed seeing a way to Downtown Disney that we've never seen before. It was getting very hot out but the breeze on the boat made it more comfortable. Before too long we saw our destination come into view.
IMG_0624.JPG

It was a very hot walk over to T-Rex without any shade. We were crossing our fingers that they would allow us to walk-in for lunch. This is because we were hungry and also because we wanted some air-conditioning. The line looked bad but surprisingly we only waited for about 5 minutes! We had never been here before so it was nice to try a new place out.
IMG_0633.JPG

We were seated next to a dinosaur that we were told was named Trixie. My mom ordered the Bronto Burger and I picked the Paleozoic Chicken Sandwich. They both were good! I especially liked that mine came with the pizza dough bread. I wished the fries were not spiced but that was alright.

IMG_0657.JPG

After our late lunch we went and walked through a few stores but didn't buy anything. The sky was beginning to look like a storm might be coming. We wanted another water taxi ride back so we didn't want to stay too long and have the weather be too bad for a ride back.
IMG_0672.JPG

IMG_0680.JPG
We made it back to Riverside and the weather decided to cooperate. No rain yet. :) A fly did decide to constantly attack my mom on the boat. Not sure why it kept biting her, maybe because of the upcoming rain, but it left me alone. Got her pretty good though.

We may have lucked out with the rain holding off for awhile but that was soon going to change. While waiting at the bus stop we started to hear thunder and the sky was lighting up with flashes of lightning. It looked like we were going to be in a storm shortly. Some people left the bus stop but we were determined to at least make a short visit to Hollywood Studios. We had 3 Fastpass+ reservations. They were for Star Tours, Tower or Terror, and Fantasmic.
IMG_0686.JPG

Once we arrived at DHS it was already storming out. The bus driver told the few people getting off the bus to be careful for the lightning. Florida does have some powerful storms with unbelievable lightning. Walking in I all of a sudden got excited because I was finally going to see the theater without the hat in the way. The hat never bothered me and I even liked it, but never saw the view without it. I was going to see the view that a lot of people had been missing, I walked to where would be a good view of the street and didn't look until I was lined up perfectly. When I looked up I didn't know whether to laugh or cry. I ended up laughing.
The new view of the street.
IMG_0687.JPG

That stage was right in the way! I guess they have no other place to put it?
IMG_0689.JPG

I have some trouble with motion sickness so I sit out Star Tours. My mom then can go on twice because she uses my Magicband. She likes that and I usually just wander the park or ride Great Movie Ride. Because it was raining so hard I just stayed in Tatooine Traders to shop and people watch.
DSC02313.JPG

IMG_0692.JPG

After Star Tours we were going to go on Tower of Terror but the weather was getting a little rough. I also got notice that Fantasmic was canceled due to the thunderstorm. The good news is that gave us a Fastpass to use on anything the next day at Epcot. We walked out and were a little disappointed that we missed a few things but glad we had another day planned at Hollywood Studios.
IMG_0695.JPG

This was the longest wait for a bus the entire trip. We were waiting in the rain too. The lightning was pretty strong and would make us all jump. I remember that everyone clapped when the bus did pull up.
IMG_0696.JPG

Once back at Riverside we went back to the room to pick up our Rapid Refill mugs and went to the Riverside Mill. We again ended our night here by getting something to drink. This time I also picked up a sack of Mickey pretzels. We sat there for awhile and enjoyed our Diet Cokes. When we were done we refilled them with water and headed back to our room.

I love your coordinating track shoes! I was trying to guess who had the blue and who had the green -- I had your mom pegged for the blue, until I saw you wearing them in one of your photos! I am so glad you get to enjoy Disney with your mom. That makes for some really great memories I'm sure! Plus, your mom seems like a little firecracker riding that water slide over and over again! She definitely has the Peter Pan syndrome and that's a great thing!! :)

Can't wait to see and hear more about your fun!

That's hilarious about the stage! Your mom rocks. Mother/daughter trips are so special. Loving your trip report! :D
Thanks! Yes, it was so funny. :jawdrop: :joyfull:

Well, it was time to say good-bye to our Royal Room and transfer to Pop Century for 7 more nights. It was hard to leave that beautiful room and resort. It would have been very sad, but it was okay because we were going to Pop Century. We always enjoy our stay there as well! We packed up all our things for move. I had some breakfast that I'd brought along from home. My mom had some coffee cake and Hostess donuts that she brought with her.
IMG_0718.JPG

Bye pretty princess room! :inlove:
IMG_0720.JPG

We went to turn in our luggage for the move. They said that our bags would be delivered to Pop Century and that they would deliver them to our new room. That was great because we had a big day at Epcot planned and didn't want to have to leave to pick up our bags. We went to the bus stop and decided that we would get on the first bus that pulled up. We would go to that park and then get on the bus to Pop Century. It was the Magic Kingdom bus waiting for us. When we arrived we walked over and waited a few minutes for a double long bus. There was a total of 6 people on the bus including the driver. :) We were headed over to Pop in style. :joyfull:

DSC02316.JPG

Checking in was pretty quick and the good news was our room was ready!
IMG_0724.JPG

We were in the 80s section in room 9172 this trip. Usually we are in 50s or 70s. I was thinking we were going to have a long walk but surprisingly it wasn't that bad. It was a good room on a corner and had a pool view.
IMG_0726.JPG

IMG_0727.JPG

Okay, the room wasn't as fancy but still good. :inlove:

IMG_0731.JPG
Now that we were all settled in at Pop it was time to hightail it to Epcot! :D

I love Epcot and was so glad to finally get there. My mom and I are typically at the parks from almost park opening to park close. We play hard and it was about time we got back into this habit. We had Fastpass+ reservations scheduled for Spaceship Earth, The Seas with Nemo & Friends, and Soarin. We also had that extra Fastpass on any attraction we wanted because of the rainout of Fantasmic.

Spaceship Earth was first so we got right on.

There we are on the big screen. :D
IMG_0766.JPG

After our ride on Spaceship Earth we decided that we should probably get something to eat. We chose the Electric Umbrella because it is next to Mousegear and we were thinking that after lunch we could shop and still make it on time to our Fastpass with the Seas. I think we both just ordered the kids meal cheeseburgers because we weren't very hungry yet.

I love the look of Future World. I have no idea what these mean or why they are there but I always need a picture of this. :inlove:
IMG_0773.JPG

IMG_0776.JPG

Nemo was found and all was well again. We wandered around the aquarium and enjoyed being there. It's nice to take your time and not feel rushed. I wanted to see the Frog Fish. I saw it last year but he/she was having none of it this time and decided hiding would be the way to go. They have such unique sea creatures here.

We figured we should probably move on. You can't pass by Nemo and friends without a picture. A nice lady walked by as I was taking a picture of my mom and offered to take a picture of the both of us. She didn't want me to do the same for her but I did offer.
IMG_0786.JPG

Next place we were to on our way to was the Land. Living with the Land had a wait of about 20 minutes. Before too long we were in our boat in the front row. Gotta love getting the front.

Years ago they sold the strawberries you see in the Seasons Restaurant. They were so good but haven't seen them sold for a long time. We still have to look though.

I loooove Belvita. Great choice. Plenty of leg room on that empty stretch bus, HA! Looking forward to the next installment of your awesome adventure :D this TR is totally making me want to go on a Disney trip with my mama!!!!
I love Belvita! I have it almost every morning. You should definitely try and go to WDW with your mom! Is she a Disney fan?

I know and I can't wait to be there and try all the pools! Just 88 nights of sleep left :)
88 days! I love that. It's coming quick!

Soarin time! I think this is such a fun experience. It is always one of my mom's favorite things to do. We have one of the WDW cds with the Soarin music on it and I love to listen to it at home. The music can bring you right there. So glad we had our Fastpass+ reservation for it.

We enjoyed our flight over California.:) I wonder if they are planning on changing the movie. I am not sure how I'd really feel about it if they did. I enjoy it so much as it is, but am curious on what they'd do with it. We stayed and took a water break in the land. It was nice to sit and enjoy some cold water in the air-conditioning.
IMG_0874.JPG

We almost decided to use our extra Fastpass on another ride on Soarin but choose to use it on Test Track instead. We never get to ride together on Test Track because we use the single rider. We also never have designed a car so we wanted to do that too. We walked over and was looking forward to this new experience.
IMG_0878.JPG

We worked together to build this masterpiece. :D
DSC02384.JPG

One thing I love is how everyone is so friendly at WDW. As we were going along I heard the two guys talking about how they were at least going to beat the golf cart. I knew they meant us, so the trash talking began. We were all laughing and having so much fun with our contest. I'm happy to report that our "golf cart" did end up winning.
