Whelp, I did it! I applied to work in the parks as a Security Cast Member yesterday. This will sound silly, but after working in multiple "careers" during my lifetime (I'm 62), and being semi-retired now, I consider this my "dream job." As a lifelong Disney fan (Like many of you, I grew up watching Disney feature films, both live action and animated, and watching The Wonderful World of Disney on Sunday nights) I have always felt "the magic." I visited DL for the first time in 1977 (I was 16). Sadly, that was a one-day visit and I didn't make it back there for another 21 years. I have loved the evolution and expansion of the company (acquisitions of Pixar & Marvel, Thanks Bob I!) and for the last several years, thought I would really enjoy working in the parks. When I was a kid, my dad was in the Army but almost always worked a second job. At one point we lived in Sterling, VA and he was one of the on-duty managers of the Holiday Inn near what was then known as Dulles International Airport. On some weekends I would accompany him to work and would ride the airport shuttle to pick up flight crews. Occasionally earning tips for helping schlepp their luggage. I recall greatly enjoying the generally happy, vacation atmosphere of the hotel. That may be where I first caught the notion of working in a resort atmosphere. After spending a tremendous amount of time at US Disney parks I believe I would love being immersed in that environment and being paid to help guests enjoy their vacations. It just feels right!

So to this point I have applied, passed the online personality assessment, and am scheduled for a virtual interview tomorrow afternoon. I can't imagine this interview NOT going well, but if any of you are current/former CMs and have interviewed for this particular position I would appreciate any advice/guidance you care to give for the interview.

Update 8/3/23 - My interview is done. I am all but hired! Recruiter thinks I am a "great fit.! I was placed on a waitlist for an "academy." Apparently, they process a lot of people in this role. When a seat opens up I will receive a formal job offer via email. My recruiter said that could happen in as quickly as a week! I am unbelievably stoked!

Update 8/7/23 - I just received (and accepted) my job offer! Wohoo! I now have a phone meeting scheduled for Friday AM. I wish I knew what the timeline of the coming chain of events is going to be. I know there is some sort of physical and drug screen, but what I really wanna know is when I will start the training academy. Assume I will learn this on Friday.

I googled and found via glassdoor Security interview questions at DLR

Why do you want to work for Disney?

Have you had experiences calling 911?

Explain a time which you dealt with an unhappy customer and how you handled it.

What does working at Disney for you.

Never been a security host but for the interview just be yourself, share your passion for the brand and as well as how you would enhance the guest experience. Also try to think of some answers to how you would handle guest situations, like maybe a child is crying or someone has lost the rest of their party, guest service recovery etc. good luck!

True dat! Hopefully the formal offer will come within the week period mentioned by the recruiter, but he doesn't control that aspect so yeah...waiting. =]
