I like Stitch's Great Escape!

I'm very glad that you like it...I mean that. I am one of the ones who does not, and you asked why. I personally don't love the character, just a personal preference. I also was a huge fan of the attraction that used to occupy that space, which was Alien Encounter. I admit to still being a little bitter about it being replaced, which also affects my opinion of SGE. What I think doesn't matter though. I only replied because you said you didn't understand the reason for the hatred. Go and enjoy with your little one. :)

Like many people who had the pleasure of experiencing Alien Encounter, I enjoyed and appreciated that attraction because it was thrilling and intense, without having to be a big elaborate coaster (many of which I can't ride because of motion sickness).

For those who never experienced AE, it's difficult for them to understand how much fun it was. It was an adrenaline rush. It was truly frightening and intense.

Truth be told, it probably did not belong in the MK to begin with. It would have been better suited for the Studios, but it would have needed a more TV/Movie specific theme to align with the then-still-in-tact park identity.

I would be a hypocrite if I said it belonged in the MK, and that it should have stayed there, because I firmly believe the attractions in the MK should accommodate as many demographics as possible (family rides). I don't feel that way about the other parks.

For those of us who were childless young adults when they converted the attraction, it was a serious blow to our enjoyment levels. It went from intense to downright silly. And at the same time, guests were being inundated with Stitch (sort of like with Frozen now) - and enough was enough. "Ruining" a great attraction with something many people weren't fond of just left a bad taste in people's mouths.

If the attraction is around for a few more years, I'll be able to take my new son on it. I'll be able to re-live it through the eyes of a child, and will likely have a new appreciation for it. Meanwhile, I'll continue to dislike the current version of the attraction.

I don't love it. I don't hate it either. If I need to escape the heat or it's raining, and everything else has a long wait, I'll go for it.

There are various reasons why some hate it. As has already been mentioned, many absolutely loved Alien Encounter, and they felt Stitch was a dumbed down version. I agree with the above post that says that AE was a bad fit for MK. It was truly scary, and MK is not supposed to be a scary place.

I think what a lot of others, myself included, do not like about it, are two main things: the restraints and the smell. The restraints come down so hard that you have to push them back up, or else you feel like your shoulders are going to get crushed. And then there's the chili dog burp. It smells terrible, and some have noted that the smell seems to follow them even after they have left the attraction.

I think if they wanted to do a Stitch attraction, they could have done better. I love Stitch. I'd love to see that attraction get an upgrade but keep good old Stitch around.

But I'm glad that you enjoy it and are looking forward to taking your little one on it. :)

I love Stitch, too, and haven't done this attraction, but probably won't simply because of the smell. I really don't want that following me home...

I was 31 when I saw it for the first time and I can't wait to go back in with my 2-year old this year.
I don't understand why everyone hates it. It's the only attraction I know of for Stitch and it goes with the backstory. I love Stitch.

You shall be tarred and feathered!

Seriously though...I don't get the major hate. It is an awkward attraction though, really intense for the little ones, the little ones who should enjoy stitch, and the ride has great animatronics. I can't really think of any better animatronics throughout WDW. Wife is saying the witch in GMR is more advanced, I'm not so sure. Stitch has the alien police man and 2 aliens in the background in the preshow. And also the 2 robot arms and stitch during the show...

While it's not my favorite & I personally don't enjoy it at all, I'm glad you like it! For me, it makes me feel claustrophobic & I find the seating terribly uncomfortable. But otherwise, I probably wouldn't mind it.

I'm a Stitch fan, I like the movie, and I like the animatronic Stitch in the ride/show, that being said, it's understandable why there's the hate....it's a skippable (if that's a word) experience. I've always thought that Alien Encounter as it was should've moved to Hollywood Studios. I was there the year of the TP'ing of the castle, Stitch being the voice of the monorail, the overkill, etc. It's really though not too much different with having "Frozen" shoved down everyone's throat's this day and age.

It's not that bad an attraction...

Then again, it isn't that great.
I never got to see alien encounter. And really know nothing of it...but, I don't enjoy stiches. The only reason we ever got on it was
A. There was no line
B. There was a 50 minute wait for space mountain.

It all comes down to whether you experienced the ride it replaced or not. You cant compare what you never knew. Its like if you never ate a great steak, you'd be satisfied with a hamburger. And Stitch isnt a favorite character of mine so I'm more likely to go negative on it being the character that the ride is based upon. But that doesnt mean you cant enjoy it. I'll move on to another ride and you can have my spot in line.

I love what is half of the attraction. I believe that both of the pre-shows are very well done and are very entertaining. I love the area music from transitioning between the pre-shows, it sounds so catchy and fits Tomorrowland's theme very well (as I've said before, I wish it would replace the snare drum loop in buzz lightyear's). The animatronics are very impressive and the overall idea isn't all that bad.

The problem I have with the whole thing is the main part of the attraction. I feel like they should have replaced or fixed the shoulder restraints so that they dont press so hard on your shoulders at the beginning.. And with today's technology, that could be easily fixed. The chili dog thing never bothered me. I feel like they should've had some more Stitch AAs that break some walls and pop out and such every now and then. I also believe that Pleakley should have had a larger role and Jumba should have been in the main attraction trying to blast Stitch as well.

It's like they put SO much effort into the pre-show and the music for the attraction.. But then decided to give up and get lazy on the main attraction. So.. I enjoy it for the pre-show, and that is why I always go experience it. It's a 50/50 for me.

I appreciate the answers and explanations most gave. Thank you.

No, I never saw Alien Encounter, but I have panic disorder so I lean toward things that aren't scary.

I agree with some that the Stitch experience seemed to start out strong and then weaken out. Going in to see it did get us out of the heat and I really like the character so perhaps that adds to it.
