Trip Report I know, Disney is just SO horrible (alternate title: Is there a sign on my scooter?) - COMPLETED

Who: My husband Scott and I
When: May 5th-11th, 2018
Where: Pop Century Resort

This is my first trip report, so please forgive me if I make an trip report faux pas!

DAY 1

Up at 4am to get a morning shower (it's my equivalent of coffee)
got ready and woke hubby up at 430am.

Scott's mom picked us up at 5am to shuttle us to the airport (she's a trooper)! We got to the airport about 530am and we were number one in the queue for Southwest. Sent off our luggage, and we had reserved a wheelchair for hubs because he's disabled, and although he can walk, he can't DISNEY walk, and in the airports we just find it easier. It also allows us to board first on Southwest, so that works out great. But before we got the wheelchair, he wanted to go outside to smoke his pipe for a bit, since we were so early (the flight was at 720am, but I worked for the airlines for 13 years, and you are suppose to be at the airport 2 hours prior to departure... I can't break that habit, and I don't like to feel late!

IMG_0553.jpg

wow, what a wrinkly sleeve!

While we were outside, there was a dude out there dancing and facebook live-ing it.... ok then. You do you dude!

Went back to the Southwest desk to call for a skycap with a wheelchair, and we were whisked thru pre-check/handicap security really quickly.

edited to add: I did get stopped at security because of my splint on my arm/hand. the lady inspected it, wanded it, and drug tested it. All which took about 1 minute or less.

Here we are at the gate, waiting for boarding... hubby looks thrilled.

We were off right on time. From Grand Rapids, MI, we had to change planes in Chicago Midway.
IMG_0557.jpg

This was an interesting relic to see there:
IMG_0556.jpg

Everything was also on time to MCO, the flight was full however, and I refuse to sit in a middle seat. Usually, I get hubby to sit aisles across from eachother, but he was being ornery this morning, so he was sitting at the window, and I'm on the aisle in the same row, with a confused person between us. She tried to get each of us at separate times to move over next to eachother, but each of us refused. Sorry lady, you were almost the last person on the plane... you get the middle seat! :hilarious:

Next: Day 1 continued...

Good Night Epcot

Day 5 -

We had intended in the original plans to do a 1/2 day at Magic Kingdom today, and 1/2 at Hollywood Studios, but we decided we wanted to go back to Epcot 1 more time, so we could see what we missed.

Got up early and shared the breakfast of Champions, Amarette's!

IMG_0732.jpg

I had to get the mouse mousse, and the other is a Key Lime tart. Both were delicious, and we both said it would be hard to choose between the two!

The bus was speedy, and we got there right after opening.. the bag lines were a little long, but they went really quickly. I always made sure to watch to see which guards were being super picky and slow, and which were just check and go...

Scott went to the smoking area while I ran up to the land and got us a return time for Soarin' with his DAS pass. I enjoyed it so much the first time, I definitely wanted to go again!

IMG_0733.JPG

IMG_0735.jpg

We only had about 25 minutes wait, so I went back to the smoking area, and hung out with hubs til it was time.

This time, we couldn't ask for better seats... it was middle, first row! I swore this was my favorite ride ever...

After Soarin', we headed back off to the WS, and this time we went to the right... we had decided that we wanted to try the Fish and Chips QS that we had only heard good things about.

IMG_0736.jpg

In Canada, Scott had to hug this bear... no clue why...it was random!

IMG_0737.jpg

In the UK, we found our destination:

IMG_0740.jpg

I sent Scott off to find us a nice shady seat, as it was terribly hot already that day. He made a friend.

IMG_0739.jpg

I forgot to snap a pic of our fish and chips, but they were amazing, and we both enjoyed them and agreed we would eat here again!

Bummer about your Ohana meal. You should've texted me while you were there because we might have been around the resort by that time. It was lovely being able to watch the fireworks from our room at night.

My husband and I made the mistake of eating a late dinner at Ohana after a late lunch. We couldn't eat much at all. Every other time we've gone we've made sure to go to an early dinner and to either have a late breakfast or very early lunch.

Well I found a few minutes... so I'll continue... But I'm lacking pictures for a lot of this day!

After lunch we continued thru WS... bypassing what we had done two days before... and made it back to Norway and the Mexico, to have a more thorough look. Finally hunny was satisfied, we stopped at the Joffrey's stand, he got an ice coffee, and we were on our way to the rest of the day... HS!

This is when we became invisible... We were standing/sitting in the handicap part of the line for the bus... and the bus driver totally ignored us... loaded up the rest of the bus, and then came out and said he was sorry... but we weren't there when he pulled up so we would have to wait for the next bus. You bet we were fuming and #wdwtoday heard about it on twitter. Another bus came about 15 minutes later and that's when my hubby broke the bus! He was getting on with his scooter, but he was still so mad from the other bus ditching us, that he accidentally ran over the edge of the ramp with his scooter and bent a part... The ramp wouldn't go back in all the way, so he called someone over... and then stood on it... got it to go in... tested it a couple of times.. and we were on our way.

We made it.

IMG_0744.jpg

Because there isn't much open, I struggled with what to do for fast passes. We ended up using them for the Indiana Jones show. Which I thought I had a picture of... but I can't find it! I was pleasantly surprised how I enjoyed the stunts and all the scene changes. Hubby enjoyed it to!

Our next FP was for The Muppets 3D

IMG_0745.jpg

I just love this fountain, it was really cute!

Muppets really needs an updating.. the 3D technology is so old, that it was unimpressive, but super cute.

After we went into the gift shop, where there is just about everything but muppets stuff! However, THIS was where I got my Orange Bird antenna topper!

orange.jpg

Success was mine!

It was getting pretty close to our ADR time, so we found the smoking area so Hubby could smoke his pipe for a few before dinner. We checked in at sci-fi diner right on time, we probably waited 5 minutes to be seated.
IMG_0747.jpg

This was one ADR my hubby had asked for... we both knew going in that the food was just ok and not amazing, but we were ok with that.

We were seated in the back seat of the car with two couples in front of us. We enjoyed all the old horror movie trailers and cartoons... I'm actually old enough to remember some of the cartoons and the refreshment stand intermission advertisements. :hilarious:

I decided I was going to try the steak, since I'd heard good things about it. It was done perfectly, and pretty tasty... not the best steak I've ever had, but not the worst either.
IMG_0748.jpg

Hubby had the BBQ platter... he said it was pretty tasty... he also got

Orbiting Oreos
Oreo Shake mixed with Godiva Chocolate Liqueur and a souvenir Glow Cube

... that I was regretting not getting after I tasted it. Glow cube #2!

Sorry the image of his food is dark.

IMG_0749.jpg

I purposely did not get the shake because I had already picked out my dessert. The Candy bar

IMG_0751.jpg

Not pictured, Scott got the Cosmic donut with the cinnamon apples, which he really enjoyed.

After dinner we didn't have another fast pass until fantasmic, and we weren't so sure we were going to do that.

IMG_0752.jpg

At one point we wandered into Launch Bay theatre and we checked out all the new star wars stuff... the dessert party was going on while we were in there...it looked pretty cool... except it looked like just stand up tables... I don't know if their were tables to sit farther in, but standing would not be my preference!

We snaked our way thru to the end at the gift shop... where hubby was admiring many items... I walked out the doors... and I was standing there just looking around and I got greeted by this dude:

IMG_0754.jpg

He and his buddy were pretty cool... I kept texting hubby to hurry up and come out... but he couldn't tear himself away from a light sabre and he totally missed it.

After he finally came out.. (actually I think I went in and dragged him out) He said he would like to go toward tower of terror, even though he can't ride it because of his back, he wanted to go to the giftshop.

It was a great shop, with some really cool paintings... and some nice tops... not in my size... but I ended up with this. Can you tell by my name on here and this, what my favorite number is?

IMG_1004.PNG

I got a new keychain... which is awesome... I love it!

During this fantasmic had started.. we obviously weren't going to make that fastpass, and FP's were closed for Buzz light year... and since hubby couldn't ride that anyway... I decided to skip it.

So my ONE big issue with the day is that I had listened to people when they said that this was a half day park. I think it's only a half day park if you've been there before and fully explored it. We both left that night feeling like we had missed half the park, and that we should have done the whole day. Bummer. Next time for sure!

Sci Fi is so much fun (food is o.k., but it's the atmosphere that people go there for). I'm guessing it might have been about 7 years ago that I went there as a walk-in; and because I was a solo diner, I got seated pretty quickly. The waitress brought me to the back of a car, and told the "passengers" in front that I was a hitchhiker, and would they mind if I joined them for a few miles down the road. :D

Last full day!

The next morning we woke up to find this:
IMG_0759.jpg

noooooooooooooooooooooooo /sigh

This was our AK day!

We got ready and went to the buses...

So... You know how when you have met someone, but you are in a place where you would never expect to see them... and they stop and ask you if your Ryan's sister? (my brain went.. Ryan, who's Ryan? Oh yeah my brother... yes, yes I am his sister!) no? Just me? Well that's what happen to me on the bus. My sister in laws, sister in law (got that?) was staying at our resort too!

IMG_0763.jpg

I had to take a shot of them to post on Facebook for my SIL. That was a fun coincidence! Another funny story I learned, is that a few weeks later, they saw us again at the Beach here in Michigan. But she decided not to say anything this time because she thought I might think she was stalking us! :hilarious:

Welcome to AK!

IMG_0764.jpg

This morning is the first and only breakfast and character meal I actually reserved. We had breakfast at the Tusker house!

IMG_0768.jpg

I actually really liked most of the food... something different than just plain old bacon and eggs.

First up for our friends was Goofy! We were actually wondering if this would be awkward, adults with characters... but it was perfect, they said, hello, quick hugs, and pictures, and they were on their way!

IMG_0766.jpg

Mickey kissed my boo boo of a broken hand, and then wanted to take a selfie!

IMG_0772.jpg

Best Selfie ever!

IMG_0773.jpg

Then Daisy came by with hugs all around!

IMG_0774.jpg

IMG_0775.jpg

Then the characters got out musical instruments and let all the kids in a parade around the restaurant.

IMG_0777.jpg

Googy's leading!

Doh.. out of picture room!

So strange and cool that you saw a "relative" we have had experiences like that at Disney and twice when we went to Mexico. Actually one time we pulled up at a resort in Mexico and as we got out we were greeted by a church member, she was waiting for a rep from the airline to arrive with her luggage they had lost. It was such a surprise when we were greeted by name before my feet were out of the taxi!

Tusker House is a great character meal, I like the variety of the food and the character's outfits. Sometimes meeting characters without kids is a little awkward but by now I'm used to it and we try to avoid face characters because sometimes as an adult that just seems a little too weird.

Love the little desserts you got from Amorette's! They do such a nice job on all of their things and soooooooooooo yummy :) It's too bad 'Ohana is still in speed dining mode. I'm seeing it coming up in a number of forums and podcasts. I know we weren't happy with the pace on our last visit. Looks like you are at least getting lots of nice anniversary goodies at each of your stops :)

I have a ton of work... but I don't feel like working, so instead I'm going to finish this up!

After Tusker house, we had a 950am FP for FoP... I started second guessing myself as to whether it was a good idea to go on this right after breakfast... but there was no way I was giving up my FP, so we were about to find out.

IMG_0780.jpg

IMG_0782.jpg

IMG_0786.jpg

A nice couple took my picture by this scary pod... I was using hubbies cane because my knee/sciatic nerve was unhappy after a week of parks.

When we got to FP, the FP line was practically empty, and we went right up to the front... I never even had time to stop and take pictures!

Remember I said I felt Soarin' was my favorite ride in WDW? WRONG! FoP is like soarin' on crack x10! I absolutely loved it... although apparently my calves are thick because a CM had to snap the leg restraints shut... he had me pinched a little in there, but I wasn't about to complain, I was going to ride this ride no matter what! The smells, the feeling of the bird flying, at parts it felt like a roller coaster to me, without the worry.

After our great ride, we had time to kill before and Scott loves zoo type things... we we explored the tree of life a bit, then we went to the maharajah jungle trek.

IMG_0790.jpg

IMG_0791.jpg

The theme-ing is just so awesome in this park.
IMG_0792.jpg

And apparently the only thing we saw on the jungle trek was a chicken.
IMG_0794.jpg

At least that's all I took a picture of. I do remember seeing all the tigers out and playing... and hubby stopped in the bat house. (I waited outside, thank you!)

Then we stopped for a snack.

IMG_0795.jpg

Hubby and I both agreed the plastic cheese was too salty. But we had to try it!

We did a lot of back tracking in this park, as we still had time to kill, and we wanted to use Scott's DAS pass to go on Navi River Journey... which is now known as... blacklight heck?

Got our return time, and headed off to the safari... our driver was actually very boring... not funny or punny what so ever. I was actually disappointed in that. Are they suppose to be?
