I Just Booked Air - I Guess this trip is OFFICIAL!!!

Some of you have probably heard me gripe about airfare out of Houston. It's not a great fare, but w/Southwest's fall sale, prices dropped about $100pp...so I took it. I have a CC rewards voucher that should drop the total price another $115. Until this, DH was also on the fence about joining us...but I cornered him in the bathroom and made him decide then and there. :D Hey, he's had close to 5 months to make this decision.

The good news...we are scheduled to arrive and depart at decent times...so, we should be able to have some quality WDW time on both of those days.

I guess I'll start a PTR soon to really make it feel official. ;)

Hobby is one of the reasons I really dislike flying Southwest. Still, the price and the whole no baggage fees makes it the logical choice. It's also a much shorter drive from home.
Yeah, I live in Woodlands so IAH is the only way to go for me...we get picked up and dropped off so we don't have to pay for parking, and fortunately I am at a good level with United (although I hate them since they merged) so I don't have to pay for bags either. When you add it up its almost always cheaper than going southwest. But I hate Hobby so much that I would probably pay more just to not fly out of there.

You could always say the dog is going to the vet for a check up.

I am considering that, but I fear my older one will go drama off the deep end. She has the tendency to overreact and assume the worst on a grand scale. Seriously, kiddo misinterpreted something last night and began bawling because she thought I might go to jail. It all came from a discussion over car seat and booster seat laws. Oy!!!!

We are Pearland area, so Hobby is far more convenient. Still, I know what you're saying....before all the baggage fees, I'd choose Continental over SWA as long as the price difference wasn't too great. I have so many friends who think I'm nuts and actually prefer Hobby, but in this case I'll suck it up and deal since there's a considerable savings this way.

I always book the WDW package before the air fare, and it's doesn't feel set in stone until I book those airline tickets. Congrats!
Ha...that's funny, I do the opposite, I see what kind of AP discount I can get on rooms and whats available, then I look at flights and book when they are cheapest. After flights are booked, I call back and get my Resort booked...just goes to show there are so many ways to do it.

Funny...I think 180+10 governs my WDW booking. I put in my resort ressie a few days before my 180 mark...but it was another 2 months before I booked air. Of course, we've driven the last 2 trips so it took even longer for it to feel real. True about there being many ways to do it. As I often tell my friend...it's "right" if it works for you. ;)

$100 is a great price, IMO. Even if its $200 round trip, that's still good!!

I always book my plane first if I'm flying and when I click to approve it, I have that "I'm really going that day!" rush, too. It's a good feeling. :)

I wish it were $100..or even $200. It's just a savings of around $100 pp. The avg r/t air from either of the Houston airports to MCO (prior to this fare sale) has been around $430 pp. :(

Still...like you said...we now have that "I'm really going that day!" feeling...which makes a huge difference :)

I book my air first and go by the best seat sale to determine my dates. A few days here and there can save $300 or more on airfare. Airfare is about half the cost of the total trip so if I can save a few bucks it's worth it.

Luckily my dates this year were a bit more flexible. Last year I traveled with friends and had to go on their vacation and paid over $800 on my flight.

I just got my Magical Express tags in the mail today! That's when I REALLY start getting excited! :D

I used to be able to book trips like that. Some of it was air...we used to get much better prices through here, but now...the prices stay pretty constant. We're even passed over for a lot of the fare sales or destinations. The kids' schedules also reduce the flexibility quite a bit. Work doesn't help either...it's very much like Disney dining. Our vacation calendar will let us start booking time 90 days out and with spots being limited...well, it's tough to do anything too spontaneous. What's worse...there's no +10 at work, so if you really want the time off, you better be the first in on day 90 and book it pronto. :(

That's awesome that your Magical Express tags arrived! That's a big sign that your trip is just around the corner!!! :)
