I have done practically no planning...

Things have been extremely busy ever since we decided to book the trip. Work, dealing with accident attorneys and insurance companies, putting the house on the market, dealing with layoffs at work...

The only planning we really did was the resort (based on finding a great deal), picking FP+, and where we plan to stop for the night on the way down. We do not do too many TS restaurants. If we want to sit down, we either go early or eat offsite.

Today, while sitting on a conference call at 1AM half asleep and bored out of my mind, I start poking around. I have been to Disney far too many times to count (I even remember going to the Contemporary to play the Hercules pinball maching...the one that took 2 kids to play because you couldn't reach the ends for the flippers). DHS has the Frozen Summer Fun thing going on. This is something new to enjoy and see. DHS is usually a 3-4 hour park for us. We enjoy the Streetmosphere performers most. My DD will love all of the Frozen stuff. Next, I see all of the new stuff at Harambe Market. Can't wait to try those either. We love AK and can spend most of the day there. This just adds to it.

I guess I am going to have to poke around a little more for new things to experience!!!

Nothing wrong with winging it. Spontaneity can be fun, especially for experienced visitors. We go at less crowded times and don't do a whole lot of planning. A couple of years ago we made no real plans and did not even choose what park to go to until the bus pulled up. Now, knowing in advance what parks we prefer on what days makes this easier, and if the MK bus pulled up first on a Monday morning, we would just wait for the next bus, whatever that might be. I still don't, and won't book ADR so far in advance because planning a trip around dining times does not work for me. Not real thrilled about booking fastpasses in advance either. Hard to plan so far in advance when you don't know, or care what park you might be in on any given day, or if that particular day might just be a no park day.
Now I know this kind of planning, or lack of said planning, won't work for most people, but for us, an older couple with no kids, it works just fine.
Last fall we did the no real planning thing again, spent a week at AKL-Kidani, and had a great time. And we also make AK a full day. Never understood the half day thinking with so much there to see and do.
Of course, July requires more planning. We went in July once and the only July plans I have made since is to not go back in July.

Oh, one more thing...SSR is wonderful. Hope you can take the time to enjoy all four pools and the walk over to DTD. When we stayed there we took the boat to POR from DTD and back just to enjoy the view and a magic cookie bar.

Its Disney.... sure planning out every last detail like a mad man will get you everywhere, but going without anything set firmly in concrete works too. You will have to wait more, take chances that things open up for you... but you can still enjoy Disney. As long as you go with the attitude that you can be very flexible and have patience it can work out well. Doing Disney a different way will be a different kind of trip for you and may give you some great memories.
