I have a dream. In honor of Martin Luther King Jr. Day, I'd like to share something I've been dreaming about since Toy Story Mania was announced. I'd love to say that I'm really looking forward to Toy Story Mania, but I'm not all that excited. For starters, I am not a big fan of shooter rides. However if Buzz was more like MIB at Universal, that would make a huge difference for me because I like the 3D sets and characters in MIB more than I do the 2D cut-cutouts of Buzz. Also I am certainly not a supporter of using digital screens in place of full 3D sets. But I do love Toy Story and just think that they could make a better ride based on these movies. Something more grand than Buzz and Toy Story Mania.
Here's my idea:
What about a big budget E-Ticket dark ride, where you start by being shrunk to the size of a toy. The ride can send a series of ride vehicles into a preshow room first, this room would be Andy's bedroom. It's an elaborate set where everything is huge and you see all the well known characters from the movies like Woody, Buzz, Rex...etc. They are animatroic but are not moving, they are lifeless. On one wall there is a huge digital screen (yes I do believe in using screens when they are called for) seemlessly integrated into the 3D set that shows Andy, who's huge to us, playing with his toys. Everytime he walks or moves, your vehicle and the room rumbles. Then you hear Andy's mother call him for supper, and he runs out of the room. You hear the door shut and then silence for a second or two....then all the toys start moving and coming to life. They move up closer to your ride vehicle to examine and comment on the "new toys" that have arrrived and talk about their fears of possibly being replaced, no longer bing Andy's favorite toys. They even make references to how high tech the "new toys" are and that they almost look human. In this room, they ask you to join them on their most recent mission, which would be something such as to rescue a toy that has been stranded outside in the backyard. The ride would then continue through multiple show scenes where you go through rooms of the house, like the kitchen, and livingroom, outside to the backyard, and back to Andy's room. All while encountering familiar characters from the films and obscure ones too like Sid, Al from Al's Toy Barn, and the Pizza Planet delivery guy with truck. The finally would play out to "You Got A Friend In Me" and would be a big budget audio-animatronic scene like in the finale of Splash Mountain with all the toys celebrating in Andy's room.
Here is a picture I made up real quick in Photoshop giving you an idea of the first show scene and it's size and detailed sets. Of course I would expect Disney to go into even more detail.
Thanks for reading. I've always wanted to share this with someone on these boards.
