who liked JIYI. I mean, it wasn't very "charming" (i'll give it taht), but it had a lot of really cool effects. I liked a lot of the sttuff they did in there, it seemed as if the imagineers just wnated to do as much cool stuff as they could.

anyone else like it? or no.

btw, i haven't seen the newest one.

P.S. sorry if this post made no sense. It sounded better in my head. I proabbly left out a lot of stuff too. :hammer:

Oh, no one minds. It's good that some people liked it or it would have been an absolute waste!

I thought it was very depressing, myself. Riding the very dark ride, even having a CHILDREN'S warning on an attraction that really just replaced such beautiful and artful sets and quality...not to mention the darker tones and removal of the upstairs. I was REALLY really upset.

I hope one day they can redo the whole thing from scratch, and make a TRUE Disney hit...one that can please more. After all, Kodak got over 1,000,000 complaints alone!

But thanks for expressing a less popular view. That's a very commendable thing! :D

Yeah Grizzlyhall, the way u said that made me think about how much better the original was, and I always wondered what happend to the 2nd floor. You are right also about all the wonderful sets, I had forgotten about those as well....need to dig up all my old pix of the original....thanks for bringing back some fond memories of a great ride!!

I wasn't a big fan on the JIYI redo. I agree that it wasn't as bad as some say and it did have some really nice effects. Most of the best ones are still used in the new Figment ride (disappearing butterfly, invisable train, stary sky). I think the new ride is a good mix of the Imagination Institute theme (which I really like) with the fun and whimsy of Figment (who's an old favorite).

of figment and men

I think that one of the major problems with the current JIYI-WF ride is that it cannot avoid being compared to the original, much like how movie sequals cannot avoid being compared to the first films. JIYI-WF is something that replaced something else while trying to maintain the same style of theming. If it were an attraction created from scratch, with no original JIYI, I don't think that die hard Disney fans would dislike it as much or be as disappointed by it. (grizzly, your thoughts on this?) But it had to follow in the footsteps of a classic, and at that classic's demise. Many consider today's Guns N Roses to not even be Guns N Roses at all, but rather some marketing ploy that won't last.

Mission Space is very successful, but a bad remake of Horizons called "Horizons 2000" that uses only half of the original show building and destroyed all of the orignal sets would *not* be successful.

Change can be as equally bad as it can be good. In this case, it seems like the majority of guests who have ridden the original JIYI prefer the original over the remake. It's like the remake of the movie Psycho that came out a few years back with Vince Vaugn and Anne Hache... to think that human beings sat down at a table and agreed that the film would be a good idea makes me sick. Hitch deserves more than that, much like Walt deserves more than to have his CoP lost forever.

Well, it matters on the ride. It they upped the sets and the quality, and especially the imaginativeness, while still incorporating the theme of dreaming instead of a more 'fixed story,' there is a GREAT potential to make it greater than even the first. Unfortunately for change's sake, but not necessarily harmful to the sake of progress, I think Dreamfinder and Figment MUST remain in Imagination. Sometimes, there are just things you "can't let go of," like Mickey Mouse from Walt Disney World. That's why over a million guests complained when Figment was gone.

Good points, everyone!

I have a few pics but I'd have to scan them first and then get them online. I'm sure Grizzly Hall will probably have some posted here before I get done doing that though so I'll just say that there was truly a lot more to the ride than that. There were lots of scenes of Dreamfinder and Figment in different imaginative worlds. The was the Dreamport where thoughts and dreams are stored, there was a scene where everything looked like origami, there was a scene that was supose to be spooky and had different "scarry" monsters and such in it, one was showbusiness where Figemtn was preparing for a show backstage while Dreamdfinder conducted some very dated laser effects, a scene where Dreamfinder talked about science, and a bunch more. It kind of reminded me of something like "It's a Small World" on a larger scale. Very cute.

Im not a big fan of the New JIYI. I guess the sad thing is that i remember more about the original one then the new one. And i rode the new one last year. I thinki rode it during soft openings

I want the original back as well! When we went years ago I would ride it like 5 or 6 times on each trip...last years trip we rode it and never wanted to ride it again....I just miss the original!

Pumbas Nakasak

Heading for the great escape.
I have no recollection of the 1st edition of this ride though my dear wife assures me that we did ride it. I have ridden the other 2 variants and consider them to be a waste of space and concept.
The idea behind the attraction is a good one but the execution falls short. I have no real affiliation with Figment as an icon so cant see why he has such a devoted following, where did he originate?

Mind you I am more of a Donald than a Mickey person.

For some info regarding the original show, including videos, check out:

www.figmentsimagination.com

and

www.intercot.com/edc

I also have 2 high quality videos (live) of the attraction on QuickTime if anyone is interested. The only way I can get it to you is through AIM transfer, which MAY or MAY NOT work, but I'll just need your AIM name.

It also has some footage of the queue area...including the original staircase leading up...

And I think even that queue puts the new attraction to shame... :(
