I recently saw on the schedule that Fantasy in the sky is starting there next week and was wondering what they were planning on next or if that was it.

Oh boy, a nearly 45 year old relic! Disneyland is so lucky!!
Fantasy in the Sky is a relic to, There going back to the stone ages now. Don't get me wrong, I love Fantasy in the Sky especially Disney Worlds original version with When You Wish Upon a Star as the finale but if they want to hold a candle up to Forever or Wishes they need to add some time length and projections to that.

The year of nalstalgia, enjoy it while it lasts because it's going to be childhood memories and waterworks for many guests. At least make a runtime of 10 minutes, or bring back Remember but Fantasy in the sky is way to short, the Epcot Fountain runs longer shows than that. I would love to see an updated Fantasy in the sky with original music, additions and effects.

Tbf, a show using machinery to manipulate water has a lower cost to upkeep than carefully trajected (even if we did have those threads about the firework going off on Disney Way or whatever road it was lol) and timed explosives going into the sky. Disney is apparantly the largest purchaser of fireworks in the world and they seem pretty liberal in their use of them.

But it cost A LOT to install, World of Color costed about 75 million dollars (from wiki), now what is cheaper than a water show is a projection show with a few fireworks and lasers mixed into it ^_^
That money is already been spent, though, and Disney replaces multi million dollar projects all the time. There's nothing Disney can do about to get their 75 mill back and it currently costs less to upkeep than a tens the of thousands of dollars per night it's done show. In regards to the firework shows being shorter, the people making decisions are just trying to lower the cost. I want longer shows as well but where they're coming from, a huge sum of money already spent doesn't sting as much as money spent now and regularly. Lucky for us, fireworks are a huge part of the reason a lot of people go to Disney parks so they have to keep the show quality above a certain threshold.

But I'm surprised they didn't even use any projections. And as for Fantasy in the sky they launch way more shells at a time than they have to. The fact that they are using their secondary launch pad that is set for Fantasy int eh sky at all time and used for many occasions kind of tells me something else is coming.

Maybe Disneyland but despite all the cutbacks Disney World has darastically increased their use of Fireworks since 2000.

I recently saw on the schedule that Fantasy in the sky is starting there next week and was wondering what they were planning on next or if that was it.

Here's the Disneyland fireworks schedule through the end of this year, with three different shows to be offered;

Now thru 9/18
- Fantasy In The Sky on Friday/Saturday/Sundays only

9/23 thru 10/31 - Halloween Screams three times per week on Halloween party nights. Fantasy In The Sky performed on alternating nights Friday/Saturday/Sunday plus nightly for Columbus Day week.

11/4 to 11/6 - Fantasy In The Sky those three nights

11/10 to 1/2/17 - Believe In Holiday Magic will be performed nightly seven days per week for the holiday season.

Then in January, 2017 it is assumed that Disneyland goes back to Fantasy In The Sky on weekends for the winter. Not 100% known at this time however. As for Spring, 2017 and beyond...

Rumor has it that disneyland is planning to do star wars fireworks similar to what Disneys hollywood studios just recently got this summer.

That's the strong rumor right now. No real info on it yet.

Pretty much. Poor castle park.

Why? This is the Castle park that has had a popular Star Wars E Ticket attraction located just off the Hub for 30 years, half of Disneyland's lifetime. Star Tours even got a major segment dedicated to it during the Remember Dreams Come True fireworks show for the 50th back in 2005-06.

Disneyland, 1987 - Mickey welcomes new friends to Walt Disney's Magic Kingdom!

For a decade now the Tomorrowland Terrace nearby has been hosting Jedi Training Academy to big audiences. For the last year Disneyland has hosted Seasons Of The Force in Tomorrowland with a wildly successful remake of Space Mountain into Hyperspace Mountain, plus the Star Wars movie clip show, Launch Bay, and Tomorrowland Terrace remake into Galactic Grill. One of the most popular Disneyland souvenirs in recent years has been the Build Your Own Lightsaber shop in Tomorrowland. Etc., etc., etc.

While the jury is still out on how Star Wars Land will integrate into the rest of the park in 2018, I think Disneyland will survive a Star Wars themed fireworks show in 2017. If its done as well as all previous shows, I imagine it will be popular with audiences too.

All that said, I've had a view of the Disneyland fireworks from my hillside deck six miles east of the park for the past 20 years. I've been watching Fantasy In The Sky the last two nights and I was struck by one thing... that show is short! Compared to the epic shows they've created in the 21st century, that 20th century show is just really short!
