I'm SOOOO pumped! Haven't played yet, but it sure seems just as amazing as the previous ones! Can't wait to put it in!! And it came with a bonus disc of some sort, some trailers and demos apparently...

I've been under the impression that it's designed to be a co-op game, so I have not been too interested in it.

I have loved all the past kart incarnations though. This one just looked like it wasn't designed for one or two players as much.

My husband and I got it a day or two before it came out, its pretty good. But... in my opinion, its just like the N64 version.. but there's just two people in the same car. One nice thing about it, is that each person can hold 1 item, so you can switch gunners to use the other item. And some of the puzzle boxes are double, so they have two items. But the thing that is REALLY nice about the game is that, in my opinion, the tracks are better than the N64 version.

But other than that, its just an okay game. Haven't played battle mode though yet.

this game is probably the single reason i bought a gamecube in the first place.... it's been painful holding off buying the game now that it's out (got it on my xmas list).

the reviews haven't been too kind, basically saying it follows nintendo's tried and true 'if it aint broke, dont fix it' attitude towards their franchises...

i'm sure it'll be a blast tho... cant wait...

Well, after playing from 6 PM to 2 AM, single player, co-op and multiplayer with 4 people, here's what I got to say:

Is it similar to the formula? Yes. Is that a good thing? YES! If they changed Mario Kart from what I remembered, I'd be peeved. The karts handle great, and the new turbo-skidding maneuver and the two racers do add some extra challenge; there's just no way you can beat the 150cc cups if you don't get yourself a good, balanced pair of racers.

As for the multiplayer, that's where the weirdness starts. The levels seem SMALL. I mean, the N64 MK you could actually RUN AWAY from opponents, a round would take a while to end, you could even set traps and stuff, lie down untill the opportunity rose. Here you just RUN. The levels are incredibly small, and after the 10th or so banana peel, there's no way anyone can avoid them.

Two other things we missed: the little "jumps" you could give to turn 180o faster, and how you turned into a bomb after you died on a battle round. There's none of that here. New stuff include being able to "steal" your oponents items by ramming them or running over them while star-shining. Ramming also steals a baloon, and therefore an extra chance to keep on battling.

By playing the single or co-op modes you can unlock extra karts, racers and two battle arenas.

Bottomline is, if you like Mario Kart, you'll like this. Jamie, if you're in doubt, rent it and give it a try. It's not as co-op oriented as it seems, even though it's fun to play the co-op game. I had no idea it'd be so good, but it actually is challenging.

I felt the same way I feel now with the N64 version x the Cube version with Smash Bros. Don't ask me to explain, the N64 versions seemed to be more visceral, you could see things TOUCHING; the Cube versions seem more "plastic"... Kinda like the weird CGI you see on El Dorado or Sinbad? That didn't make any sense, dit it? Never mind... It's a good game, go give it a try.

And popkid, yeah, I knew Mario Kart would eventually come out, but when we actually bought our Cube and we started comparing what games each new system had, it was Cube all the way because of Smash Bros.! :p
