...and offering up just a little tidbit from the corner of my mind.

As cool as Mission:Space is, I would trade it in for Horizons any day of the week.

Questions? Comments? Concerns?

I wouldn't trade M:S to have Horizons back. The ride was incredibly outdated by its final years. It was laughable to many. I really enjoyed the spirit of the attraction, but to think that it could hold its own today is probably just the nostalgia talking.

If they could come up with an attraction that could capture the spirit of Horizons, but not be so hokey and outdated, then that might be an acceptable trade for me.

Your right, the nostalgia is a big part of my viewpoint. However, nostalgia can be an amazingly powerful thing. Outdated or not, thinking about riding through that pavillion, knowing the nooks and crannies, the familiar scents and smells, and the sight of familiar scenes is so comforting.

I live in the midwest, but because the influential age I was at during Horizons existance, it became a huge part of my childhood memories - even if I was only there once a year. It's absolutely incredible what I remember from that ride. It's almost as if it's still there.

To think, and know, that it was demolished and simply no longer exists is such a sickening thought. Then top it off with a serving of World of Motion memories along the exact same lines is enough to make me have to lay down for a while.

ehh..i loved horizons more than most..but have to agree that it started becoming a joke towards its last years. Im not sad to see its dead..but i think its replacement is worthy of the slot of land it lies on.

I'll be honest... I wasn't a fan of Horizons... but I am one of Mission: Space... so there. And before ANYONE dares to call me a thrill junkie... my favorite Disney attraction to this date is still Dreamflight... far from a thrill ride.

ZAC COMES CLEAN!

They shouldn't have gotten rid of Horizons. Use the extra space around Wonders of Life and Test Track (I wish I could attach photos without going to the photo album  ) - but I believe if they should have kept any Future World attraction, it would be Horizons.

(World of Motion, Imagination, Kitchen Kabaret, and Spaceship Earth are so close).

And while World of Motion may have been the most hilarious and detailed, Imagination may have been the most loveable, Kitchen Kabaret being the most clever, and Spaceship Earth the most dramatic, Horizons was the perfect blend.

Like World of Motion, it had that slight comedic tone to it. It personalized you and the hosts. Like Spaceship Earth, it adds that drama during many of the scenes with breathtaking sets and musical scores, one of the most memorable being space.

Horizons was EPCOT. It was Walt Disney. A trip through the future (which could have been updated) while also looking at comedic visions of the past - and the cutting edge of science today (the Omnisphere). Sure, perhaps the vision of the future was outdated in 1997. So that means it should have been closed? Naw. I just say refurbish the whole thing. But don't lose the spririt.

It was the story of mankind and all progress. "If we can dream it, we can do it," we heard several times through Horizons. We heard it a lot - from Walt Disney, the many himself.

Mission Space is a good ride. But I think that's all it is - a good good ride. But it lacks. It lacks in heart (Horizons had the spirit of family, you got attached to it), which can be brought out by character, song, and score. And while the technology is amazing. . . well, that doesn't "wow" me. Horizons was quality. That was something to "wow" about. We saw it. It was ours. For fifteen (or more) minutes each trip.

Mission Space also lacks in theme. Yes, space flight. But where's that thread that we're given? It's more indirect. So yeah, we land in Mars, it's over. We go out to send email cards. Ride it again. Where's our "Dream it and do it!"? It just lacks, that's all. Not to mention small pavilion.

Horizons is one of the most well-beloved Disney attractions. Some people know it as the "orange" attraction, others as the "choose your own ending". But in any case, people still love it, grasping the few Walt Disney World Forever or Official Album tracks which are no longer available. And the home movies. And once the technology of Mission Space is outdated, will people keep going back because they're in love with the attraction? Maybe. But I feel as though Horizons had that power that Mission Space could never gain.

Even when I listen to the soundtracks, I just sigh, "I can't believe it's gone." It's unbelievable. Because Horizons WAS Horizons. It's grown to be a part of us.

Horizons will always live on so long as there is progress and imagination. Good job, MSU.

Well we (uh, most of us) know my story about ISTC and Mission SPACE. But off the record I wouldn't mind seeing Horizons coming back.

Mainly because I never went on it. It was there when I made my "Never coming back return" (Check out the "Things you hate Disney for doing" thread). But at the time, I didnt realize that there was more to the Mouse's House than just the Studios (Well I did but the Studios was my home at the time, one of those "You've got to know me to understand"). So I never went on Horizons. I rarely went to EPCOT for the most part except to see Illumi.

So I'd like to see Horzions come back, if only for like a week or two.

I just returned from WDW last week, and I don't see that the hype is about. M:S doesn't have the re-rideablilty that Horizon's did. It's like those old spinners at the fair that spun you around. They just added a flat screen and buttons & knobs.

After riding M:S for the second time, I actually thought it was kinda dull.

Wasn't there the promise of simulated weightlessness? I must have missed that in "hypersleep"

We werent able to keep up the weightlessness system, it was just too difficult to keep the 17 seconds that were planned so we pretty much dropped it.

You do get about four or five seconds of it. But nothing too big.

You can so re-ride Mission: SPACE. Hell, even to this day, after 300 flights I'm still finding things that I didn't notice before. Not to mention, you dont know what position you'll get.

But whatever. When we get the new system installed....oh boy.

It adds to the effect if you know what those "Button and knobs" as you called them, do. That way throughout the flight you can hit the switches at the right time to make it feel more realistic.

I haven't been on M:S yet. Does it have any memorable narration like the classic "kelp vs. seaweed" discourse in Horizons? I would trade for Horizons simply to choose the other two endings. On the dozens of times I rode it I always chose space.

I would have liked to see Horizons and M:S stand side by side...there is no reason why new attractions should replace the old ones...I know that other issues led to the down fall of Horizons....but I wish I could ride it atleast one more time...

There is a sad hint of irony in the last statement....

Didn't the Horizons building have major structural problems? So, regardless of where they put M:S, Horizons would have come down anyway, right?

Anyway -- has anyone else noticed that the Horizons logo is on the hub of the space wheel in the M:S queue area? I was very happy to see that. A small, but effective tribute. Much like Mr Toad handing the deed to Owl.
