I Feel Like Giving Up Hope For Disney Characters Meet 'N' Greet Again

Here's some more good news. Disney is opening it's Galactic Starcruiser on Monday, and in all the big preview visits the past few days they had live and costumed characters wandering around and interacting with passengers up close. You could pose with Stormtroopers and aliens, and stand next to and even hug the lounge singer Gaya or the captain of the ship.

And that right there answers the question; Yes, it is perfectly safe again to stand next to and interact closely with characters.

It's likely an issue of staffing and operational red tape to ramp down the Social Distancing setups and restart the "normal" way Characters interacted with us in the parks. I think the staffing issue is probably the biggest holdup right now, but that will be fixed eventually.
On a less embarassing and positive WDW related news. Mickey's Magical Friendship Faire has returned with a new song as a tie in to the resorts 50th Anniversary at MK. It's so refreshing to see the characters hugging and close interaction with each other after 2 full years of social distancing! Even if it's only for this show. 🥰

Good news, Disneyland Paris is the first Disney Park to finally allow Disney Characters to hug guests again after three years! For now it's only allowed for fur characters.

It was Disney's greed for photopass money that made character m&g a thing. I wish we would return to the days where the characters could just roam around and interact with people in general instead of a formal picture opportunity. However that doesn't make Bob any money so it will never happen.

I think there's a time and place for both. In the past I usually saw the minor character freely roaming around. It's the fab five and princesses (at least the important ones) that need structured lines and turn taking or else they'd be overwhelmed by people crowding around and fighting for a turn to take a pic with them or hug them or get autographs, etc.

I think that was more in the late 90s. It all changed after 2000.
