I Don't Want to Take My D5100 on Cruise

Its been awhile since I have checked in here, but in about a month we are going on a 7 day Med Cruise on the Disney Magic out of Galveston. I have a Nikon D5100, but I am not sure I want to take it on the cruise around sand and water. I was looking at the P7100.... I don't want some little cheap plastic thing with a 15 minute shutter lag either. Any suggestions?

I agree....just get a cleaning kit and you should be fine. :)

Take the 5100. That is what you bought it for. The harsh realty is that it will be out of date long before it fails due to sand and water (assuming you don't drop it overboard LOL). Cameras are tools to be used, not to be sat on a shelf.

Really the thing I'm most worried about is the day at Costa Maya where we spend the day at the beach. That would be day with the most potential to kill my camera. :) Although, it is tough... it bounced of a concrete patio recently and I have been unable to tell it was damaged in any way.

just leave it on the ship when you dont want to risk damage? the benefit of the SLR quality photos for the rest of the time far out weighs your concern.

Honestly, I have a Nikon D7000 and a Nikon P7000 and I take both of them on cruises. On days when the weather is nice I shoot with the D7000 and on not so nice days I use the P7000.

I am going to take my D5100, but not in the pool or when we go to the beach. I picked up a $130 Lumix TS20 that is waterproof and shoots underwater. I can keep it on a wrist strap the beach day and have no worries about someone picking it up and walking away with it. I have a nearly 2 year old and 4 year old, so I will be out in the water with them. :)
