Agreed!

If you don't want to pledge to the flag then don't. I just can't see how people can't show respect to the people that fought and died for that flag. So many lives went to defend our freedom, and people take it for granted.

I"m not a big god freak, but I think, back in the day when the pledge was first made, God had a lot to do with the way the people in the country lived and I just think that's probably why it's in there.

But I agree with Darrel, don't like it don't say it, no big deal.

"Under God" wasn't added to the pledge until the 1950's I believe.

Im going to say one thing and bow out gracefully...

...being an atheist..i sorta see any mention of god in ANY part of politics a bit hypocritical of our own "dont mix church and state" point of view...

This country was founded on contradictions...but i have gotten used to it and dont let it get under my skin ;)

Students here in tx only have to face the flag. Its the child's decision to recite it and cross his/her, heart.

We never say it in class.. Pathetic I think.

My only problem with this debate is that if you say anything about the separation of church and state and the fact that our constitution doesn't mention 'God', you're branded as anti-God or anti-Religion.

IMHO, the great thing about this country is that you're supposed to be able to believe in whatever you like without fear of retribution. That's what the American flag means to me.

Theocracies have not exactly been shining beacons of democracy and freedom over the whole of human existence, (just look at today's Middle East!) and I have no desire to live in one.

I have no problem with removing the word 'God' from the pledge OR our money. You wanna hear or read about a specific 'God', go to a specific church.

And what does this have to do with Disney, anyway?

so then why did they add it then? :veryconfu I don't get stuff....

I am not sure why it was added...but I do have my ideas. I think after World War II people were more involved in religion and family. People in this country saw amazing amounts of death and destruction. We needed something to turn to.

As little as people like it today guys, America was founded on Christian beliefs and ideals. I know that many people will even try to disagree with me on this one, but the truth is the truth. Do you even know why the puritans sailed here?? It's because they wanted to worship God freely without the legalism and persecution of the Catholic church. I don't see what the big controversy is all about. I mean, people didn't expload when Lincoln would mention God during his speeches. I dunno, but I just see history as history. We were founded on certain things, religion kinda being one of them.

Truth? The truth was they wanted to get away from state sanctioned religion. That's the truth, as little as Christians like it today.

I have no problem with religion in general. I have a problem with policy and law being based on someone's 'beliefs' to the exclusion of all else.

I say again, what does this have to do with Disney?

When I was growing up I was raised a Jehovah witness, therefore I was not allowed to pledge my alliegance to any flag,So I never said it and noone said anything about me not saying the pledge,so why do some atheists feel the need to take away part of american history,Like dadisneynutter said wether we like it or not America was founded by Christians with Christian values, and since when doesn`t the constitution not mention god,yes it doesn`t say the words "GOD" it says that we are endowed by our "CREATOR" with certain unailiable rights.

folks we already had to kill one thread because of Religious discussions. This is not the place for it... If you want to discuss religion or politics please go to a site that is designed for that.

Thank you.

Sorry to say it, but this thread is of a political nature. For the 1000th time, political threads and topics are not allowed on these forums. Those of you that have been here for a while should know that, and shouldn't start threads based on these types of subjects, much less respond and take part in them.

I realize that this thread has remained calm as of yet, but I can guarantee it won't stay that way. These topics won't do anything but cause problems, and there simply isn't a need for them on Disney forums, chit chat or not.

Thanks.

As Disjosh said,This is chit chat and as such you can chat about almost anything, even things that don`t make sense,my reason for posting this was not to offend anyone or anger anyone,If I did I apologize. I have many atheist friends and as such they have no problem with the pledge, they just don`t say it,what burns me is the people that want to ruin it for everyone else.
