Hi, guys!

My aunt is going to Orlando at the end of the week (I am not going... ), and she is going to bring me a digital camera. But she does not have much money, so I searched the web for the best and cheapest camera available, and we decided for a Samsung 1.3 Digimax 101 Digital Camera. The resolution is 1.3 megapixels. There is a list of features, but as I am not a native English speaker, there are always some things I can't understand. Could you help me? Here they are:
What is...
- a 1/15 to 1/2000 second shutter speed?
- auto exposure?
- macro mode?
- 6-mode white balance?

I have anther question. Based on you experiences, what do you think I will be able to photograph at WDW?(Besides the usual pictures) Main Street with the Castle at night? Fireworks? Fantasmic? Or there isn't any difference from the common cameras?

Sorry for the tons of questions, it's just that I am so excited about this camera!!!:sohappy:

Kisses from Brazil!

ton of questions...no prob. It's important to do research when purchasing a camera :animwink: .

- a 1/15 to 1/2000 second shutter speed?
This is the length of time you have the camera shutter open. The smaller the fraction the shorter the time. An example would be taking a shot of a firework. If you set it to a short time you'll only get small streaks. The longer the time the longer the stread from the firework. But the longer the time the steadier you have to be. If you shake the camera the slightest bit, the lines will become squiggly.

- auto exposure?
The best options on the camera. Just point and click. The camera will do all the work for you. :sohappy:

- macro mode?
This mode is great for taking close up shots of flowers or any other object.

- 6-mode white balance?
I believe this is to let you adjust who bright you want your shots. the lower the setting the darker the image. the higher you set it the brighter and whiter the image will be.

CP did a pretty good job, just a couple other things:

Lets say you want to take a picture of a spinning tea cup. If the shutter is at 1/15, you will get a very blurry picture. The shutter will be open (letting light hit the film) for 1/15 of a second. That sounds short but it's not in the world of photography.

Taking the same picture at 1/2000 will get you a nice capture of the image, almost no blurring.

Auto Exposure is the best setting - the camera does all the work for you and chooses the optimum white balance and shutter spede for you. You just point and shoot.

One word of caution, most digital camera's have a delay before they take a picture. You press the button 1/2 way and it takes it readings, usually 1 second or so, longer in darker sitautions. Then you press the rest of the way and get your picture.

Macro is exactly waht CP said - normally you need to be 6-12 inches or so from the object you are taking a picture of. With macro - you can get as close as 1 inch. I have had macros on my digital cameras for 7 years now, I think I used it once.

Now, about your question on what can you shoot - the answer is basically the same as normal camera - depending on what you mean by normal.

But for the most part - a digital camera has the same dynamics as a 35mm film camera. How good the picture depends on distance, movement, and lighting.

Something far away - you need zoom capabilities
Somthing moving fast - you need shutter speed (1/2000, etc.)
Something dark - you need a flash

I hope that helps. If you have more questions, ask away.

:sohappy: Thanks for the tips guys! I just can't wait to have my new camera and start shooting... I hope my aunt manages to get it right! I printed a picture of it from walmart's website, for her to show the salesperson. If he/she asks her anything... she will not be able to answer!!! She is traveling by herself and doesn't speak a word of English!!! (Of course, I tought her some words like cheeseburger, fries, coke no ice, chocolate ice cream, thank you, excuse me, sorry)
