I always think I need new sneakers for a trip

Does anyone else get the urge to buy new sneakers/shoes when planning a trip? It always seems like such a good idea since I will be walking so much. Then I remember the times I did and how bad my feet hurt from breaking them in. Nonetheless I found myself looking at the $179 Nikes yesterday and was thinking how great my feet would feel in them. HaHa. I would normally laugh at the idea of sneakers that expensive but when Disney is involved somehow it seems justifiable. In the end I did not buy them but my wife got decent pair of Nikes that were on sale. We leave in 2 days so I advised her to wear them as much as possible before then!

I do the SAME thing LOL If they're comfortable, then they're for me!! Look at it this way ..... its better to spend big bucks on a good pair of sneakers and be comfortable, than to spend $$$$$$$ on a Disney vacation and can't enjoy it, because your feet are sore!!
I saw these at the store. For appx $200 I wasnt sure if they would be the best shoes ever for Disney or the death of my feet. They do look interesting. I dont think I could pull it off though. LOL

I've actually gone over soooooooo many websites for sneaks... if I can suggest ebay. I got a few pairs of sandals (listed for $125 at Macy's) for $40. Still looking for my Skecher memory foams LOL

If you can't find the memory foam Skechers, may I suggest trying the Go Walk 2's? The same sole comes in several styles. I just "discovered" them a few months ago and have been able to find 2 pairs on sale (1 at Rack Room & 1 at Amazon w/ free shipping). My feet are finicky and I usually need time to break in shoes, but these haven't required any at all. It sounds weird, but I am happy to get on the treadmill each morning (Disney training, you know) just so I can walk in them, they are like super light pillows under my feet and I can't wait to wear them in the parks. Also, from what I've read, they dry fairly quickly (like by the next day) - always helpful in case of rainy days in the parks. Good luck finding some that make your feet happy! Would love to hear what you think about the Skecher memory foams if you find them :)

Thank you so much!! I have major sciatica issues (I know... right?!!?) my stiletto heel days are over LOL. I will definately look into Go Walks.... I just need a slight rise in the arch and I'm good. Thank you so much, for your input :) Happy Walking!!

My last Disney trip I wore a new pair of toms, worn in about a week before, and my feet didn't hurt until the very last day. (I felt better after popping some advil.) My plan this trip (24 DAYS!) is to start wearing in my new toms tomorrow, take Epsom salt to soak my feet everyday, and pain killers. :p

I often buy new shoes for our trips, but I try and gently break them in before we travel and try to get a good deal as well. I had been eyeing a $150 pair of joggers...they dropped to $80...so I've been trying to be gentle with them over the last few months. I also got a great deal on some Skechers cushioned sandals...very similar to the ones I wore at WDW in 2011...so I've been breaking those in since July as well.

I'm looking at Skecher Memory Foam Sneakers as we speak for November (well... OK as we type LOL)
I bought these for our trip that was in June. I even broke them in ahead of time. The toe area is a little more narrow. By the 3rd day it was lucky I had brought my old shoes with me. So I paid 70 bucks for shoes I can't wear anymore. It was awful. So what size do you wear???:p

The idea of buying shoes that have to be broken in baffles me. I know distance runners who will buy new shoes and wear them for a marathon the next day with no issues. If they don't feel good directly out of the box, I won't buy them.

That said, I don't generally wear sneakers to the parks. I'm usually either in sandals or ballet flats.

I never buy new shoes for Disney. Since I have super wide and flat and huge feet, I need to go to a special place to get new shoes, and they aren't cheap. I don't think it would be comfortable, either.

I find it interesting that a good majority buy new shoes for Disney. I usually don't for financial reasons but I have wide feet myself so finding shoes in general is always a challenge. You don't want to wear something that's worn out but at the same time, you don't want to wear shoes that you're unaccustomed to wearing for a very short period of time. So I do agree that when buying a new pair of sneakers, give some time for everyone to get accustomed to wearing them. At least a month or two.

New Balance 993's for the win. You could probably go all day right out of the box, but I usually wear them around the house for a couple of weeks before a trip. They may not be much to look at [check out the SNL skit making fun of NB] but they are the most comfortable sneakers/running shoes I have ever worn. Made in the USA if that matters to you. Have a mesh upper for breathability, but they don't look see through. A little pricey but I wear them as an everyday shoe after the trip. Probably will be getting my 3rd pair later this fall.

I have gotten to the point where any pair of shoes that I buy I consider how good they will be for Disney first, and all other considerations are secondary. LOL
