Hi guys!
Irma is making me very nervous indeed. Our trip is scheduled to start this Friday through Sunday the 10th. Today is my last day to cancel with a refund so I am feeling pretty anxious. Would you cancel and reschedule for the following weekend (we live in Southwest FL) It still might turn so would you wait and see? What is Disney's policy with refunds with hurricane? Thanks a bunch!

we are scheduled to arrive in FL on friday as well. We will be staying until the 19th. I am a bit nervous about the hurricane as well but since we have a long time at the parks, a day or two of closures due to bad weather wouldn't entirely ruin the trip. I mostly worry about our dining plans as we would end up missing some that I was really looking forward to. I am not sure what happens to your credit when your dining ends up canceled. With a party of 9 reservations are harder to come by so trying to add in missed credits later on can be a bit tricky.

I'm in a similar situation... I'm supposed to be there on September 11th-18th. It's definitely starting to look like I might have to postpone until next year. It's going to be a VERY bad hurricane. If it does in fact hit Florida, I hope everyone in the Orlando area makes it through ok.

Thank you! I totally agree. We are waiting till Wednesday to really make a decision if we will change our trip back to go this weekend or the following.

Someone we know was at WDW during the last Hurricane that hit the area. The parks were closed, they were told to stay in their resort rooms and not venture otside. They were staying in a value resort. They said the food court was cleaned out of food and snacks. Everyone was panicking and buying up everything they could to hoard in their rooms. They said they were very disappointed in how Disney handled the situation at their resort. Someone they went with was staying in a moderate resort and there Disney checked on guests, provided box type meals and at least showed concern for the guests.

That is a bummer! Maybe I made the right choice by rescheduling or trip to the following weekend. We unfortunately did not get the same hotel but rather not deal with bad weather or a panic at Disney if we got stuck there. Does anyone know what it's like after a hurricane in Disney? Does everything open back up after the storm? We are now set to go the following weekend (September 15-17th)

We were in WDW during Hurricane Matthew last October and we had a few TS credits remaining we were unable to use bc everything was closed. We asked very nicely and the hotel CM was able to give us refund for those. I don't think that they are required to refund money for those so we were very thankful that she was willing to help us. We stayed at Riverside and they still had a limited selection of hot food available for those that went to the lobby after the worst of the rain passed. There were characters in the lobby and they made the arcade games free that day. The parks opened up the next day but we were scheduled to leave. That was the part that worried me more - would the roads still be closed and unable to get to the airport if flights were leaving. I was very thankful I had trip insurance! It all turned out okay though. Just a couple of little hiccups but all was well.

In 40 years of WDW trips we have been forced out 3 times due to tropical storms or hurricanes. In all cases Disney was very gracious in giving refunds for the early departures we were forced to make. I would call WDW daily to see what updates they may have. If conditions are going to be really bad they really don't want you there.
Think about the nightmare for WDW trying to accommodate thousands of guests if there is no power for the guest rooms and restaurants. (Anybody want baloney or cheese sandwiches for three meals a day?) Seems like I remember a couple of year ago that guests were provided "sack lunches" because that was all that was available. Then there is the issue of keeping thousands of guests safe in hazardous conditions. I think that if there is going to be a significant impact to the Orlando area that Disney will be very accommodating in letting you reschedule if not give you a refund even if you are past the normal refund cutoff date.

You're right. No one knows the path or the velocity of Irma, nor it's impact on WDW. However, your suggestion "could" end with the OP and his family stuck in resort room for three days dealing with a sold out food court, people hording any food they can get and paying $12-$15 for a box lunch that might be worth $3 tops. It all happened during a previous hurricane. Of course the clouds could part and the sun come out for those days. Both scenarios "could" happen. The hurricane just has a greater probability of happening.

Which is why we chose to change our trip to the following weekend. We are Floridians so we aren't taking any chances.
