Hunchback of Notre Dame get's killed

Now, guys.... let's just chill. As I am sure we all know (all performers at least) that going out and doing a live performance, period, is difficult. I have done quite a bit of performing myself through my life and I know what it takes to go out on a stage and sing and dance, and lip-synce and dance, and just dance. Every different one though still took hours of rehearsal and dedication to get it performance ready. Those dancing candleabras work just as hard (possibly harder with limited movement) as those monsterous bell-ringers. It isn't a question of talent. Everybody in Disney Entertainment is talented. If they weren't, they wouldn't be there.

Now, do I like Hunchback more than Beauty?... Yes.

Do I attribute my favoritism to the live-singing?... most likely.

Is the fact that only two people really sing in Beauty compared to the seven in Hunchback the main reason I like it more?.... No, definently not.

I like Hunchback more because it is such a unique production. The puppets, especially the Djahli one, reminds a great deal of a certain Tony-wining show with puppets (*roar*...). I like the production better. It isn't the talent that matters, it's what is done with that talent that interest me.

true... I like Hunchback better than B&B.. but that's not the point... there are extremely talented individuals in both casts (including several which perform in both shows)... and both shows are extremely challenging.. so to say one is harder than the other, or one cast is less talented than the other is a lie.

Good point Kicker. I'm with you on this.

I'm not trying to stirr up any bad feeling about this.

ALL of these people put in a FANTASTIC effort in making good shows.

BTW: Off the times I saw B & the B, NOBODY was doing any actuall singing. Not even the lead rolls....huh.

:D

Sorry, but I am not sorry to hear that its going. Its quite good as a musical production but not in the same league as B&TB. Lets hope that there is something good planned for its replacement.

Yeah, B & the B is a nice BIG production in a very nice theater sitting in the most cherry spot in the park.

It has allot going for it.

Are the castmembers from the same actors union as Hunchback?

Yup.... the Character Based Cast are Teamsters, the Techs/Costuming are IATSE, and the Talent (dancers/singers) are Equity... meanwhile the juggler before Hunchback works for an outside company called Castle Entertainment

I am just curious as to who all is maybe planning on catching the last day of this show. I plan on being there, and I would've have posted another thread about, but why? We have a nice one right here...

So who is going to go say good-bye to Quasi?

Yup, I'm planning on being at the 6:00 show on Saturday.

I'll be there unless this Huricane comes close to Miami. If it does, I gotta haul my boat out of the water and I won't be able to make it.

New to the board..

I will be there for every show on the 28th. I know Hunchback may not have been the most popular show.. but it meant a lot to some of us. I have friends flying in from New York, Georgia, and Michigan - just to name a few. I hope the many talented actors will all move on to bigger and better roles. I will miss them all.

I am not angry over the closing.. I am sad. I feel like Disney keeps taking away things I enjoy and not giving anything back. What other live stage show is there? (Excluding B&B.. which even though the actors are wonderful makes me want to yack) I am at a loss. I have been a loyal Disney girl for nearly 15 years... but even I am considering buying my seasonal pass from somewhere else in 2003.

I just hope the "replacement" show for the Backlot Theatre will be even half as good... lately Disney hasn't done a very good job of that.

September 28th

Yes count me in on being there for the day on Saturday. I rescheduled my trip to WDW but I wouldn't miss being there for the last shows. Becasue of the show, I have made some new, wonderful friendships - I'm just relieved I won't be the only one with tears on my eyes come Saturday afternoon.

I'm sad to see it end too, even though I knew realistically it had been around longer than planned. The entire cast, from the pre-show to the principles to the ensemble are so talented and have never failed to disappoint. I'm glad I have gotten to enjoy the show so many times over the last 6 years of my visits to WDW.

I wish only the best for everyone in the show, and hope to see them placed somewhere else very soon. Thanks to all involved with putting on such a great show!

Maybe the new show they wanted to put in from Disney Studios Paris (CinemaMagic?) will end up going in that theater.

I thought that wasn't slated to open until like... 2006? Where are the Hunchback guys when we have important questions??:veryconfu

Cinemagic will not go into that theatre the way it is. The only way they would put that attraction there would be tear down the current theatre and rebuild a permanent theatre. Cinemagic is a little more elaborate than what the Old Hunchback theatre (sniff) can accomidate.

"Hunchback of Notre Dame - A Musical Adventure" will have it's very last performance on Sept. 28, 2002.

"Beauty and the Beast - Live on Stage" will return to a 7-day show schedule.

There we go again. Disney is taking away something and doesn't give us something back. Hunchback of Notre Dame is imho the best life stage show in the most crapy place. If they would put it in a real theater I would pay good money to see it. The story, songs, music and acting are the best there is. I love that show!
Why couldn't they kill the sugersweet Beauty and the Beast show? (ok I know you all love that one but it's just my little opinion). Guess I'm not going to buy my anual pass next year just to let them know how I feel...:(
Sorry, but I found HoND to be the biggest bunch of old twaddle that it had ever been my misfortune to sit through. We saw it one year,m but have al;ways given it a wide berth ever since.

I always liked it allot. I always told people ," If you can only make time for one show, see Hunchback."

I wish the show had had been in the B & the B stage instead of the backlot. A larger stage and larger production would have been nice.

Twaddle? That's funny!
