How's DME these days?

Hey everyone, question for you. We're going to be taking DME to the CBR from the airport this time around. It will be technically our first time trying it, although our last trip (last August) was a DCL package so they also picked us up at the airport and it was fine, we got our luggage in our room w/o issues and the bus got us there quickly.

I know that waaaaaay back when it started DME was occasionally troublesome, but I haven't heard too much in the way of complaints lately. Any thoughts?

I know at the beginning some folks were purposely waiting to personally pick up their baggage instead of waiting for WDW to do it for them - should I be considering this, or should I feel fairly confident that my bags will get there relatively quickly?

Thanks guys!

I'd say if you want your toiletries right away, then go ahead and pick up your own bags - otherwise I think DME is working well!

I'd heard that DME is the greatest thing that Disney has come up with. This last trip we were going to do it. But it was too late to do it because when we wanted to do it, it was 7 days before we went to WDW. So we rented a car.

We used DME last September and it worked great and will be using it again in 3 weeks. It does take a while for the luggage to get to your room, but it sure beats dragging it around. Although last year there was'nt the terror scare and we took the essentials (swim suits, xtra clothes, toiletries) with us in our carry-on. This year looks to be a bit different. We'll soon find out.:sohappy:

Don't pack your toiletries in carry-on anymore... You'll just have to throw out any toothpaste or liquids... New security rules.

If you can live without brushing your teeth on arrival, you can pack everything in your checked luggage, it'll be delivered to your resort room within a few hours of arrival. If you absolutely have to brush... [like me ], you can either grab your bags yourself but still use the DME buses or buy a small tube of toothpaste in the resort shop.

The only issues with DME seem to be if you're arriving in the evening, whether you can wait until morning to have your bags or not. If you can't wait, claim them yourselves, if you can wait, ask Bell Services to hold them until you call in the morning [it'll take 15-20 minutes to deliver once you call -unless they're extremely busy].

We were staying at CBR 2 weeks ago and used the DME. It was excellent - everything worked smoothly and our luggage appeared in our room within about an hour and a half. But yes - it would be wise to pack essentials in your hand luggage (subject to airline security requirements of course). Have a great stay.

We absolutely loved the convenience of DME. We had absolutely no issues. In fact, we had a flight that landed late morning and arrive at the resort about lunch time. We were lucky our room was available at that time for immediate check in. We went to room to refreshen up and within 10 minutes of getting our room, our luggage arrived. The return trip was just as efficient. Scheduled pick up time night before our departure. DME said if we were not in room just leave the bags and enjoy. We went off for breakfast during the scheduled pick up time. To our surprise, the bag were gone by the time we returned. It was awesome -- of course, we packed bathing suits, medication and some essentials in our carry on at the time. The way I figure is if luggage is delayed, I have credit card -- and head to shop to buy new shirt and other essentials.
