I am heading to WDW this weekend. What is the best way to get to Ft Wilderness from MK and see the decorations there? I am not sure how big the area is or how to get around it. We won't have a vehicle at our disposal.

You can take the ferry boat from MK. There's a number of campsites around the Pioneer Hall area, or you could take a bus around the resort as well....

Depends on where your resort is located, actually. If your resort is located on Bay Lake, the boat is the way to go! Now, say if you decide to go to the Magic Kingdom for the day and want to check Fort Wilderness' christmas lights later in the afternoon/evening, you can also take the boat to the campgrounds. Make sure you check when the boats stop running for the night (I believe it's around 10-11pm). Then, of course, there is the bus system.

In my opinion, taking the boats are a better option since its "dock" is fairly close to the premium campsites. The premium campsites are usually where there are the better lights. They are also in a decent walking distance.

Then again, the buses take you into more of the middle of the campground where you can see more eccentric decorations, such as the 300 and 400 loop...

Fort Wilderness offers "hayrides" for a pretty decent price where you can see all of the neat decorations. I highly recommend this if you have little kiddies with you!

Correction: They are called wagon rides. Here is the link: https://disneyworld.disney.go.com/recreation/tri-circle-d-ranch/

Make sure you take the Fort Wilderness Campsite boat and not the Wilderness Lodge (they are next to each other). I would recommend taking a carriage ride - it was so much fun. It's $45 and you need to reserve ahead of time (but pay the driver). The carriage picks you up right across from Crockett's tavern. It was a really fun way to see the decorations.

I like to just walk it. The people there are very friendly. More than once, my sister has chatted with them and they've offered food, drinks, etc. not that we accepted! But it seems like the people who stay there are very friendly and warm. :)

I'm planning to go after the MK closes at 7 pm for MVMCP. I'll take the boat to Ft Wilderness. No kids, but I wil ask my friend if she wants to take the carriage.

Take the boat from Magic Kingdom. If you're at a MK resort, take the boat back.

If you aren't at a MK resort, your easiest way back will be to time your departure with the time a performance of Hoop lets out (which will be 5:50, 8:05, and 10:20). There are zoned buses at the settlement stop which will take you to any resort on property. They leave, however, right after all of the guests from Hoop have boarded.

We took the sleigh ride last Christmas (goes all through the campsites, which are mostly all decorated); highly advised. The sleigh rides can be picked up just across from the Hoop Dee Doo (Pioneer Hall).
