The magnet trick is by far the most fail proof way...sadly not many people have one that strong just laying around

Here is another way (although I have not tried it). Drill a small (1/16") hole in the dye holder side. Then let the dye drain out and dry up over a day or more. Then use wire cutters to cut the pin. Since the dye is already dried up it should not be an issue.

AGAIN I HAVE NOT TRIED THIS BUT IT MIGHT WORK.
