How to keep in contact with your party?

Cell phones are primarily out for communication I would believe unless there is free wifi across the ship. My question is how do you keep in contact with your party to meet up or see where they are?

Good question. We are going to be first time cruisers next year and was wondering the same thing.

There are two Wave phones in each room. They are like an updated Nokia that works shipboard. The new DCL app allows you to use that app and that app alone on wifi for free. You can text through that app with your Apple or Android device.

Download the DCL app for your smartphone. It provides a fun countdown clock before you board; and after you board, it gives you online access to the Daily Navigator, movie times, character appearances, etc. Even better, it allows you to text other people who are using the app on the ship -- for free! (Norwegian has an app like this, but they charge $7.25 per device to use the texting function!)

If you have people in your party who don't have smartphones, DCL provides "Wave Phones" in each stateroom that allow you to make or receive calls (as if you were using your stateroom phone) and have very basic texting capability.

Be aware that the smartphone app does NOT allow you to access the internet. It is only for the functions mentioned above.

Thanks for the information. We are not even booked and don't know when we will. Just trying to get some things answered ahead of time.

We've used the Wave Phones and the App. I'm not a fan of the Wave Phones. Clunky, confusing and disruptive.

The App, however, is fantastic. My wife and I used it to text each other when separated on the ship. Worked like a charm, and it's free!

HATED the wave phones! Couldn't hear jack on them, never heard them ring if we were outside of the room. The only thing they were crucial for was if the kids club called/texted that your kids wanted to be picked up (which would've been great if we could've heard the stinking thing ring when we were outside and then when there was message, you couldn't hear what it said)! Terrible! But, good idea in theory, just poor in execution (at least in our experience).

Am so excited to try to new app! We loved using the app for the schedule of events when onboard since someone in our party always "stole" the hardcopy of the Navigator. Will be so much easier to be able to text each other! Oh, and agree with the count-down to cruise--initially that's all I though it was when I first downloaded the app and then the day came when it came time for our cruise and voila! A whole new app :)

I cruise with my girls and we used the smart phone app on our last cruise. It was awesome. We were able to text back and forth and I had peace of mind that I had a reliable form of communication with them to just "check in" with them.
