How to get around Animal Kingdom

Hi All,

We are going to Disney the week of Thanksgiving and can't wait to see Disney decorated for the Holidays!

We want to go to Animal Kingdom Resort one day and maybe eat dinner. Can I park there to eat? We would probably do this a day we go to Universal since we want to stay at the Disney parks until after the fireworks, and therefore wouldn't leave them until late.

What is the best way to get over to the Resort. Can I park there or at Downtown Disney and commute back to the resort?

Also are there any other Disney resorts we need to visit to see their decorations? We are staying off site this time : (

Yes, you can absolutely park at AKL and dine, shop or just sight see. Any of the restaruants there are awesome, Jiko, and Boma are favorites of mine. While you are there also go outside in the back and look over the savannah.

AKL has some great holiday decorations, I would also recommend Wilderness Lodge, and any of the MK or EPCOT resorts. Especially Poly, BW, Grand Floridian.

Thanks so much for the recommendations. I can't wait to see the decor! Is there a charge for parking at the resorts will we dine?

As long as you have an ADR you should be allowed to park at the resort. Sometimes they won't let you park without the ADR during busy periods. The exception to that is valet parking, they should let you do that. It shouldn't be an issue at AKL, is usually more an issue at Boardwalk & Yacht/Beach during F&W.

If you hope to see any animals the best times for that are early and late in the day when the sun is just coming up or just going down.... having stayed there I can attest to the fact that the animals seem to avoid the actual lodge area completely during the daylight hours. The only exception was the giraffes.

Also note that when you go to a resort to park for dining or whatever, you only get 3 hours of parking. Your best option for AK resort is driving to it.

Contemp and Grand Floridian are the other two resorts I would recommend... and for them you can just use the monorail on a day when you are parking in the main lot so you wont have any extra driving to deal with.

Thanks for the advice... I am thinking of going to Contemp and Grand Floridian on the days we are at Epcot. that way we are at a monorail park already.

You can park there, you just need to tell the person at the gate that you are going to there for dinner or just to see the hotel no big deal, they will let you in.
