How to find a travel agent?

Hi all!

I posted an earlier message just touching on this subject, but wanted to put out some more general feelers...

It seems there are a lot of options out there for using a travel agent. How do I choose?

Tammy (from "Kingdom Konsultants" I think it was) responded to my last note, so I plan to check out their website and such. I think I heard a rumor they are the sponsor for this forum?

Anyone else have any glowing suggestions? Or, if it isn't against the rules, would love to be contacted by other agents if they are allowed to message me. :)

Looking forward to starting the process on our next trip!

Thanks!

We used Cathy Johnson for our first trip and she was seriously amazing!! She set up ADRs for every single day which helped us get the MAX out of the free dining plan we got (well, kids eat free).

She sent all our stuff well within the days and called multiple times just to double check with us that we got EVERYTHING and had everything.

We had a tiny hiccup with a gift card, gave her a call and within that evening, the gift card was waiting in our room!

When we got back, she called to make sure everything went well and sent us a photo album!

Also to add, she sent little things for the kids like coloring books and markers, little Mickey confetti and she showed GENUINE excitement for us going on our trip!!

I'd use her again in a heartbeat!

Everyone who posts on here from Kingdom Konsultants is very helpful and in the know; however, we've also used Jodie Ball w/Small World Vacations and had excellent service as well.

If the forum backs KK, I'd go with them. You can't get a much better recommendation. If I were a TA, I'd kill for that kind of help.

In any event, do not use a regular TA from your neighborhood. The ones who specialize in Disney are the way to go. Disney is complicated and forever coming out with different discounts...the discounts are rarely well-publicized and sometimes the spots available for the discount rate are taken before you hear about it.

Regular TAs do not bother with all that. They book it and that's that. Disney TAs keep up with that crap and will book your vacation, then maybe call you up one day and tell you it will be $600 less than originally booked because a discount came out and they applied it.

You might - if you spent hours each day - keep abreast of all discounts, when they were available, spent time calling Disney, etc...you might be able to do as good a job for yourself as a Disney TA. But why bother?

TAs are free, they take care of the drudgery part of vacation planning so you can focus on the fun part.

I honestly do not know why anyone doesn't use a TA.

Several of my friends and I have used Skye with MickeyTravels (skye@mickeytravels.com and www.facebook.com/MickeyTravelsSkyeDurrer). She is SO AWESOME!

She takes care of every single detail- makes ADRs, makes BBB and HBS reservations, plans special events and activities. She really goes way above and beyond to make our trips absolutely perfect and Magical. Before we leave, we get a package with a personalized travel guide with every piece of information we could ever need. She usually includes something special for the children as well.

Before our trip and even while we are there, Skye is available at all times to answer any questions, make any changes we need, check on us while we are there to make sure we don’t need anything, or try to get discounts for us. Speaking of discounts, she is constantly looking out for discounts and offers for us- she automatically applies discounts to our reservations and then just lets us know how much money we have saved. We never have to look out for deals ourselves because she takes care of everything for us.

I can’t tell you how many times Skye has come to the rescue for me and my many friends who have used her. Whether it is changing ADRs around at the last minute because someone is sick or helping coordinate very difficult large families. She does it all!

And of course, her services are completely FREE! Again, I just can’t recommend Skye with MickeyTravels enough. I know she has made so many dreams come true. Whether it is your first trip, or your 50th, Skye will make it special and take care of everything for you.

I had the same trouble deciding which to pick. After looking into them I get the idea that there are a handful of really great Disney agencies that you can't go wrong with. I am working with Magical Travel right now and they are great and my TA is very nice, but it seems like most of those that are mentioned on this board are really good. So many people rave about Kingdom Konsultants and they seem to know what they are doing and enjoy it as well.

We've developed a great working relationship and connection with our TA, and continue to go back to them. With so many TA's out there, we first got started by being referred by friends who told us about how smooth their trips went and how easy arrangements were made. Any problems were quickly handled to their satisfaction. Look for someone who has a vast amount of Disney knowledge, has a great reputation and you can trust to work with.

We've always used CAA up here to book our trips. Our TA is very friendly and accommodating, although at times it seems like she is picking my brain more about my WDW knowledge than vice versa. :p But we've never had any problems booking it through her and we get the little AAA extras that come with booking a WDW trip through AAA, which is nice. Also, it is nice having someone local so that we can go in and put money down on our trip when we want. We usually book a year or so out and just go in and put money down when we get extra.

No complaints from us on Pixie Vacations. Lauren is awesome with communication and has always gotten back to me immediately. Price is pretty much going to be the same everywhere more or less so look for a good level of service no matter where you go.

We used Dreamsunlimtedtravel once and were fine with them... We normally don't use agents for Disney trips but for that trip it was a last minute deal and I didn't want to mess with it.

I would ask, why are you looking to use a travel agent? While I usually use agent for international trips when I'm clueless about where I'm going, I'm not sure they ever really make a lot of sense when I'm going to a place I am familiar with.

Also are you going to use a car when you are there? If you are then you can also consider using a AAA agent to make your reservations and get your tickets, then you will also get a special parking pass that lets you park closer to the gates.... otherwise the only way to get the special pass is to buy one that someone else isn't using off ebay.

Those passes say nontransferable and we were asked to show a AAA card only once out of I don't know how many days of parking over several trips

I'm surprised anyone ever asked to see a card. Since they don't actually get you into the lot for free and I've never even seen anyone directing cars up where that parking area is I'm very surprised. We've used them numerous times in the past 5 years and never had anyone ask to see the actual AAA card... some didn't actually know what they were when we asked at one of the gates where the area was, they had to ask someone else... I guess they aren't that common or the guy was very new.

It was when we asked how to find the diamond parking many moons ago
