How to deal with our trip empty nest style.

Hi all,

Well, the day is finally here when our little girl has grown up and decided to move into an apartment with friends. She is 18 now and to soften the blow to me ( drugs would have worked well here too) my husband is taking me to Disney World in November. My question is to those of you who went with your children and then they had the nerve to grow up and out, how did you deal? Did it feel weird not having them there? Did you keep saying "oh so and so would have enjoyed this?" I want to go but I feel like I'm cheating on her. I know we are going to have a blast but it's just going to be odd. Thanks for letting me vent!!

When we go this Christmas, DSs will be 25 and 20. Not living on their own yet as soon to be 25 year old just graduated from UConn on Mother's Day (he didn't listen to me and to College right after HS). They both say this will be their last time going with us and they will go off on their own while there. And as my DH is 66 and has really slowed down, sad to say, it may be our last trip for awhile too. :(

Nowhere near being an empty nester, but have been pondering the idea of a trip with just DH... our DS is about to turn 8 and I am not sure I could handle it without him, at least not now... he may never forgive us either... LOL!

We went several times before we had children and I go on solo trips every year for the F&WF. My girls are in their early teens but I look forward to the day it will just be hubby and me. It is a different trip to be sure but not in a bad way. It is nice when it is just the two of you to be able to concentrate on each other and maybe take it at a slower pace. The kids usually want to hit the rides more then we do and we are happy to take is slower and check out the scenery more. We are more likely to linger over a good meal too. Enjoy this new phase in your life.

I like the idea of a slower pace. I mentioned to my husband we could go slower. He said "heck no, we can go faster now" Haha That's my husband.

PS......he did not actually say heck. :D
