How should I pack for December?

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but from my experience you'll need........Both :)

Sometimes you'll feel great in shorts, but when the sun goes down you'll want to have that sweatshirt most nights. Especially since the parks have so much water around and in them, you can get some cold breezes blowing through.

It also can change alot from day to day. We end up packing more for our 6 day trips in December than we do for our 9 or 10 day trips in the summer.

But Christmas time at the parks are truely the best time of the year and I'm sure you'll enjoy your trip.

We've gone in December the last two years and have needed some of everything. There were days when we could wear shorts and t-shirts and then slip on a sweatshirt at night. Then there were days where we were in winter coats all day. You just have to be prepared for anything and dress in layers.

I always find it funny to be there some days where I'm comfortable in t-shirt and shorts and you'll see CM's in big thick jackets and gloves.

But there have been days where I wish I had a jacket there. One night at Fantasmic, we were "lucky" enough to get seats on the 5th row and we payed for it. My teeth were shattering.

It could be cold, or it could be great. The easy way would be to pack for cool then bring light jackets or a sweatshirt. Then you won't have tons of clothes. ALso where are you from?? SInce I'm from NY it being a little coller doesn't effect me as much as someone from Flordia who would be freezing in that weather.

I have been down there twice during dec/jan seasons, and i am from central illinois. We were able to swim one of the days (thanks to the heated pools), and at night jeans and a sweatshirt worked just fine. Light Jackets would also work. I wore the jeans all day, and had the sweatshirt tied around my waist or in our locker during the day, so it wasn't much of an inconvience.

Generally, I'd say jeans, t-shirts, sweatshirts, and jackets. But you might want to bring a heavy coat, too. One year I was there as a guest, it hit 23 degrees farenheit on New Years Eve

I get a laugh out of it also.

As for the topic at hand, I agree with what others have said. Pack for hot and cold. You may be comfortable in shorts and tee's by day but at nite you will probably need at least a sweatshirt depending on your cold tolerance. Of course you could always "forget" a jacket and use it as an excuse to buy that expensive Disney jacket/coat you've always wanted :animwink:

My husband did that last year in April. He refused to bring any shorts! He said I wear jeans all year long, I'll wear jeans to WDW! The 1st day we bought several pairs of shorts at $45 each. I was beyond mad!
Thanks for all the replies. I guess I will pack some of each. We'll be driving down in a suburban so we'll deffinately have the room. We live in Alabama and myself and my 3 year old are usually in shorts and tees until late November. Of course I guess in mid December it wouldn't be unbearably hot during the day if we just took long pants. Then just take Tees and Sweatshirts and leave the shorts behind. Knowing me I'll just pack a little of everything lol.

Pack both shorts and pants. Pack short sleeved shirts, but bring jackets.
If it gets really cold, you may be "forced" to buy Disney sweatshirts for the family. We still have ours from a January trip, and we love them.

I've been going down in december for 10 years now and it can be either hot or cold. What I do is when it gets closer to my departure date, I go to the weather channel website and do a 10 day projected forecast. This way I can see what the weather has been like and what is expected. This definitely helps in my packing and not packing things that won't be used. Since I am from NY, I always have a coat with me at that time of year, but I also always pack gloves just in case.
