How quickly do cruises sell out?

Hi all! I'm new to wdwmagic, and I'm looking into signing up for the August 24 2015 cruise to Alaska... My first cruise with Disney will be on January 10, and I've heard that if you sign up for another cruise while on board you'll get a discount... I know that the May Alaska cruise has already sold out, so would I be safe for another few months or would it be better to sign up now? I'd love to get a veranda so I'm guessing that those will sell out quicker than an inside room. Thanks in advance!

You can get a discount for future cruise bookings while onboard of 10% off your cruise fare and an onboard credit (for a 7-night cruise) that would be 200$ (shorter cruises only get 100$). The problem is not so much that the cruise would sell out between now and January when you are on the ship, but that DCL raises the prices once it has sold a certain number of cabins. So the same cruise might be pricier in January. What you can do is get your reservation for Alaska now and once onboard, get a quote for your cruise and if that is lower you can book it at the lower rate and cancel the reservation that you made prior. It is called "reshopping" and if you let the agent on the ship now, they will know what you are doing. I hope this helps!

Oh - and I think the May Alaska cruise is not really sold out. It was chartered by DVC for a DVC member cruise. So that this cruise is not available is no indication of cruises selling out quickly.

The only reason the May 2015 cruise is sold out is that it is a DVC members only cruise. They do one or two a year. And this is the first one to Alaska.

Bolna is right, booking now is the best idea. That way you guarantee yourself the best price. Book now. When you board if it's the same price, or just a tiny bit worse, rebook and you'll save 10% and get yourself an onboard credit. If it's worse, well you've already got the best price.
