How often do you go to Disney with just your family

I was just thinking about this and realized I haven't been to Disney with just my wife and kids since 2008! So my question to you all is do you go just your family or do you bring friends and family along for the ride. We are finally planning a trip in 2014 for just us and kids and I'm really exciting about going "alone".

Here is my list of trips and who has come along.

2005 - Honeymoon, just us
2006 - July - Just us
2006 - November - In laws
2007 - Best friend and his wife
2008 - Family that lives in Orlando came by for a couple days
2009 - In laws
2010 - Did not go :(
2011 - Wife's entire family
2012 - My parents
2013 - Guys trip to Universal and Disney, no family Disney trip
2014 - Just us!

We never take friends/family outside of the immediate wife and DD. Last trip we met up with friends here and there for a couple of days but they were at a different resort and they are OK with not being together every moment. I am selfish but my vacation is MINE and there are way too many variables that travelling with others adds to the equation that would just ruin the bubble for me.

We usually go as a family, it's so much more enjoyable for us. We've been twice with my extended family (11 of us all together) with another trip in April and six with the three of us with another trip this November. You are going to LOVE the freedom of being by yourselves. Don't get me wrong, we love being with family, but it's just more relaxing when there aren't other personalities, opinions and wants factored in. ENJOY!!
agree agree agree! I much prefer ot to be just my family.
on the occasions that we want to share our time (lol)we now try to schedule at least a couple days alone (the 4 of us) before or after meeting up with extended family. And I will NEvER share just one big house again. Gotta be in the bubble and have our own room, so if I need space i can have it:)

We're west coasters and visit DLR much more due to proximity. We try to go at least once a year by ourselves. If we have extended family or friends with us, it's usually for our annual big trip at the beginning of June when the kids get out of school. If that's the case, we usually try to sneak in a smaller trip of a few days near October/November time frame to enjoy the holidays.

Our first two trips to WDW consisted of extended family:

1998 - In-laws (Mother-in-law, father-in-law, Sister-in-laws, nephews)
2007 - In-laws (Mother-in-law, father-in-law)

For our upcoming trip in November, we decided to "sneak" it in and not tell anyone about it until just recently as it is hard for us to say no when someone decides that they want to join us.

Almost every time. Ironically, we are meeting up with others in a few weeks, but we generally consider non-nuclear family as interlopers.
