How much will it cost to build Beastly Kingdom?

I notice on the poll that Beastly Kingdom has the most votes so far. Well, I'm wondering what you'd put in BK and how much you think it would cost to build?

Judging by the cost of 'Dinoland', I'm not sure Disney is willing to invest much money in AK at all.

IMHO, the purpose of BK should be at add 2 to 3 hours of time to the average visitors visit and should therefore have stuff for the whole family to do. It would include at least one Disney level thrill coaster (see the redone Indy coaster in paris and their discovery mountain), one 15 minute boat AA ride similar to Pirates, a simulator ride (journey to the center of the earth, anyone?), and a dark family ride (with a ride vehicle similar to omnimover), one great show pavillion, a sit down restaurant, and a fast food restaurant.

That's four rides (at least), a theatre, and two restaurants. My estimated cost:

Coaster $50-70 million (go ahead and buy an off the shelf ride but theme the hell out of it)
Boat AA ride $30-40 million (think Jungle cruise with fantastical beasts)
Simulator ride: $50-70 million (possibly a bit low, I don't know what simulator vehicles cost these days)
Family Ride: $20-30 million (less possibly)
Theatre: $15 million to build, $15 million for first production
Area theming, stores, food, and backstage support: $120 million (again, theme it right or don't do it at all).

So we're looking at $300 to $360 million. Close to the amount they're planning on spending at EPCOT. So, I don't think this is outside the realm of possibility.

How fast would they earn back this investment... (Assume 30% is paid for by sponsors). If it brings in an additional 1 million visitors a year and ups perday spending by $30 a person ($10 for each extra hour adjusted for additional staffing costs), it could pay it off in as little as 14 months. Even if my numbers are bit off, I still think profitabilty for the area could come in less than 3 years.

I dont think they will add so many rides. At least not all at once.

And they may not even do it now. :(

Not sure if they're ever gonna build this section of the park, but I like your ideas, nonetheless! Very cool!:)

I would like to see the proposed Dragon coaster with the large Animatronics--$150,000,000

A corn maze set up like crop circles with animatronics from the hit movie, Signs--$40,000,000

A dark ride about unicorns featuring, you guessed it, animatronics! $45,000,000

A new nighttime show featuring dragons and Merlin with fireworks and such--$50,000,000

A new sit-down restaurant themed to a mystical medieval castle as well as a fast food restaurant in the castle (this entire land's central area would be inside the castle walls, with a nifty drawbridge)--including the castle itself, $55,000,000

As you can see, if done well, this area could easily cost $350,000,000...about 45% of what Animal Kingdom cost to build...I don't think Disney would spend that much money given the current economy. By the way, Dinoland was not cheap, but McDonalds paid for quite a bit of it.

I would also like to see a boat ride with tons of mist featuring the Loch Ness Monster...that'd be cool...and maybe Nessie could attack the boat in a ride like what the boat ride around Discovery Island could have been.

I really like your ideas, especially the new show! I think they could cut bugdet, if they wanted, though either not making the crop circle thing not a elaborate, or not doing it.

BK... isn't that BurgerKing??? Just kiddin...

Dinoland, USA was a quick fix, and yes, it added about 2 hours of staying time at Animal Kingdom.

It is very well done, and after Epcot gets its $300million facelift, I'm sure AK is next.

But, I don't think that there will be a frieworks spectacular simply for the reason that there are live animals there that are in as close to a natural environment that they could be in. To introduce loud and intrusive spectaculars like that could be detremental to the animals.

For New Years Eve 99-2000, there was a concert OUTSIDE the front gate of AK.. that was all the entertainment for that evening, and that was over by 10pm, so there is some precedent here for keeping loud fireworks out of that park.
