How much $$$ per point for SSSR direct?

OK...we are almost there...we are ready to buy (within the next 2-3 weeks)...we are looking at buying direct vs. resale...

Can anyone tell me how much it is per point for SSSR if we buy direct including current incentives? Do you pay closing costs when you buy direct? Does anyone know when they will be offering AKLR? When will the contract expire on this resort?

If we buy 150 points at SSSR now and add 50 points at AKLR down the road when they are available, is that enough points to allow you to book 11 months in advance rather than 7 months for a non-home resort?

I don't have the info in front of me, but I got stuff last night that said if "someone" like, say, me, recommends you to DVC, you'd get 15 dollars off a point. I think that makes it 86 a point, which is in line to what people are paying to buy from resellers. And I don't think Disney charges closing costs when you buy from them.

They actually "cover" the cost of the closing with a rebate. You still have to do a down payment if you are going to finance.

The problem with waiting and buying 50 points later with AKV, is that you will have to be alloting from two different sets of points. I am not sure how it all works if you dont say have enough AKV points to cover your whole stay. You may be required to wait until the 7 month window.

To me, the home resort thing is not that big of a deal. Unless you are going to be hanging out at the resort for a significant portion of your stay, its all the same when you are asleep when your eyes are closed. If you want to go hang out at another DVC resort and enjoy the amenities you can. There is nothing keeping you from say staying at SSR and going over to WLV and hanging out in the lobby to read, sit on the porch in a rocker, etc., etc.

I can tell you we started out with 250 points and found out it was not enough for how often we wanted to go. We recently purchased an additional 130 points and the the incentive at that time was two free APs.

Hope this is helpfull.

My Guide

Byron Helgeson is our guide...he seems like a nice guy. He contacted us years ago when I had made an initial inquiry about the DVC. Then about a year ago or so, the subject came up again with one of my customers at work and he recommended his guide. When I tried to speak to my customer's guide he said I already was assigned to Byron and he could not talk to me...I don't have a problem with this, but the last conversation I had with Byron, he quoted me $91.00 per point...$101.00 per point with a $10.00 incentive. Apparently if you are referred by another DVC member, you are down to $86.00 per point, that is a $15.00 per point incentive. That is a $750.00 difference for 150 points. I want the $86.00 per point price or we go resale.

I imagine you are going to have a hard time getting to the $86 per point referral special since you were already in contact with DVC. But I dont blame you for trying.

Our rep is Randy Krueger and he is great!!!!

Thanks...we're going to try to do our best to get the best price...I could simply afford to buy more points right away...either way, I'm still smiling here. I guess I'm just in a Disney state of mind...:p We love it there...the DVC is just the next step in this logical progression...Why is it that I never get tired of seeing WDW commercials on TV, (in fact I usually stop the whole family from whatever they are doing to make them look) but lately I'm ready to throw a brick at the TV every time I see a political commercial?

I think the resale value is better because many of the resales have banked points. Because of so many resales I am sure you can find a contract where the price per point is cheaper than from DVC.

Just a thought, if you decide to buy resale I would recommend BCV or BW. Once you stay there you will understand why. We bought at SSR but wish we owned at either BCV or BW. We find it difficult to book these resorts within the 7 month window.

Resale is less money because there are less years on it. When we bought our points at SSR we had 48 years to enjoy it- with resale I believe you have ten years less, but I could be wrong. To us, that made a big difference since we plan to go to Disney even when we are in our 70's and 80's- even if our kids have to push us in wheelchairs to get us to the parks.

Whether resale or direct from DVC, the length of the contract is the same, it only depends on the resort at which you buy. SSR expires in 2054, all others in 2042.

Hoping I am around in 2042, I am curious to see how they handle the properties. Will they sell new 50 year contracts, rehab and turn them into regular resorts, teardown and start over?

We did it!!!

This past Friday morning we put our down payment on 225 points with DVC direct at $86.00 per point for SSR (not the full price of $101.00 per point or the advertised special of $91.00 per point). The only other expense since we are sending the full amount via check and not financing, is the deed recording cost at around $125.00. Disney pays the rest of our closing...When we did this on Friday it was a $15.00 discount per point($86.00) as a referral from another DVC member...Get this...we got a notice in the mail yesterday that they are giving the $15.00 discount to referrals and non-referrals alike. The point is if you buy DVC direct right now you get SSR which is the 2054 (important to us because we want to pass this on to our kids) contract expiration date, you get it at about the same price per point as you would buy a resale, I follow the prices on most of the web sites, plus you save bucks on the closing costs.

I've got to tell you, I'm a Pennsylvania Dutchman and I'm cheap...this deal made me happy. If you do all of the math you'll see what I mean.:king:
