How much money do you think is at the bottom of Small World?

I mean surely would be enough to entice someone from maintenance to clock in for the overnight shift, don a set of waders and a push broom and go collecting, instead of just letting them corrode in the water until they are unusable.

There has to be at least $200-300 just in pennies alone scattered at the bottom of the ride...

I asked a CM this a few years ago and she said that in American culture, throwing pennies into any body of water such as the sea, river, fountains, wells etc will bring good luck.

Surely they clog the ride system up?

I used to work in a mall as a maint person and took care of the fountain, you would be surprised how fast the money adds up.

I always wonder how often they collect from IASW and the spot by the ferry. I hear it goes to charity, but have no personal knowledge of that.

And I'd be shocked to find that no hourly employees ever pick up some change.

They should do that more regularly w/ all the fountains at WDW. They should also publicize it more that they give the coins to a certain charity.:)

There used to be many more fountains & ponds scattered all over the parks as part if the landscaping. There was change in all of them. How do I know? Well, I grew up in the metro Orlando area. We had the equivalent of today's seasonal passes (they were "Three Season Salute" passes). During the months when our passes were valid my folks would take the 5 of us kids out to WDW (MK & Epcot Center), tell us a time & place to meet back, and they'd set us free to roam the parks. We didn't have money so we'd eat before arriving, drink strictly from the water fountains, then leave to go eat or go home later. Well, 5 kids ages 10-14 can be quite resourceful. Sit on the edge of a fountain in a row, 1 or 2 kids lean back, dip up fists full of change, keep the silver, return the copper. I saw my brothers drag up change out of IaSW at least once. Mostly we bought the nickel or dime candies (oh yes, they used to have stuff that cheap at WDW). The Penny Arcade was a nice place to visit. There was more than enough change to easily satisfy our evil little selves without too much effort. Looking back I want to smack us, tho! Next time you're there, stand still and count the silver coins in IaSW. Better yet, in the queue area of E:E! There's good money in there. I've always heard the money in the fountains or other attractions all gets donated. That's a nice thought.

And yes, we've repented for our days of WDW Hooliganism! LOL! Believe me, Mickey has gotten a whooooole lot more moolah out of my brother & me since we've been taking our families than we ever removed from the WDW water. We are definitely square with Mickey!
